Repair estimate advice

Today I took my 07 Fit S in for an oil change. It's @ 80,500 miles now.

The shop inspected my car and gave me estimate on the followings:
  • Replace left wheel bearing assembly - total cost ~$300 ($113.61 for part and $186.20 for labor)
  • Transmission flush '2 step' - total cost ~$160
  • Air filter - $51.95
  • Cabin air filter - $39.95

So I read that on Honda you don't really want to do a transmission 'flush'. Just change it like you would oil change. Is this true? If so, I can knock this out myself a whole lot less than $160.

They told me the left wheel bearing is loose and have some plays. I'm wondering how much usually cost for both part+labor. $300 is quite steep.

Can someone recommend where I can get air filter and cabin air filter? Not sure if they really do cost that much.

Thank you.

Looking online it seems you can pick up the filters for about $15 a piece. I just searched Google shopping. Sorry for the long link.

$51 for an air filter is ridiculous.

If you've got a Manual i'd just do the trans fluid change yourself if you're up to it. If it's automatic draining the pan and replacing the fluid doesn't really get all the old fluid out, but it will be better than nothing. At the dealership they'll probably hook the trans up to a machine that pumps the old out while replacing it with new, kind of like a blood transfusion lol. It's up to you if you think the $160 is worth it. If they're just going to drain and add the pan just do it yourself.

The wheel bearing sounds about right for parts and labor, that's about 1.75 hours in labor which seems reasonable.

The Honda Fit factory repair manual calls for a drain and fill for automatic transmissions. All of the quoted progress are outrageous.

The wheel bearing charge is pretty standard IMHO. Everything else can be an easy DIY project.

You've heard on the filters. The tranny work is two step because they are also going for the AT Cooler. Simply draining, though routine, will not clear the cooler properly.

K_C_

EDIT: I would tend to trust them on the wheel bearing.
