Destroyed front bumper cover

Hello, I am new to this forum and I have a question. My 2009 Honda Fit had the front bumper torn. The whole front bumper needs to be replaced. I took it to the body shop and they asked me if I wanted to use original manufacturer bumper or a cheaper after market part. Since I ma paying for the repair myself, I would like to save money, but I don't know if it is important to use Honda parts or if the after market parts are equal in quality. Could somebody please advise me on this? Thank you very much in advance.

Hi,

I would use genuine Honda parts, but that's me. I would think Honda parts would be better quality.

If you have to save money and they guarantee the repair, maybe aftermarket is your best option? Good luck!

I had the whole front of my car drug under the front wheels from the hood and fenders forward and nearly all of the plastic from the bottom of the car.. If I had been given a choice I would have gone with aftermarket stuff for a custom look.. It was in December 2006 and not many aftermarket pieces were available for the USDM Fit at that time and I had to wait weeks for the repair shop to get OEM parts.... I'm hoping to be able to finally install an aftermarket bumper and some other goodies in the next week or so... If you are not planning on keeping your car until the wheels fall off it would be better to replace the parts with OEM replacement stuff from Honda because a customized car isn't going to appeal to as many people.... Just stay as far away from fiber glass body parts as you can, they don't absorb impact and will break into pieces if hit by a little kid on a bicycle..

There was another one that was unpainted, but I can't find it now.

i agree with this opininon. except the better quality part. normal i would have to agree, but when it comes to plastic....plastic is plastic. the part thats going to count is the quality of the paintjob. i also say go for an aftermarket bumper. save yourself a few bucks. just make sure they do a quality paint job.

Well...simple question requires a simple answer. if you don't want to sacrifice the quality then you should go with the OEM. However it doesn't mean that Aftermarket parts aren't that good. Perhaps it's time to give yourself a favor and do the right research. I personally used OEM because i believe in their durability and performance but that's me. It will always depend on your decision. Also, take a look at a good body shop of which they have the right equipment for the repair just to save money and avoid being ripped off.
