Replacing Third Brake Light

Do I replace the bulb+plastic base as one unit, or separate the bulb from the plastic base and try to hunt down a bulb?

Thanks.

Separate the bulb.

Thanks, Jimmy.

I've been fiddling with the tabs on the plastic base. Getting the bulb out is a little tricky. Looks like you have to pull the tabs on each side in an outward direction. Which requires, like, two sets of hands.

Am I missing something?

Don't know how you managed to pull the plastic case (socket) with the bulb. The bulb should pull straight out from the socket... no clips to pry. Good luck!

You are absolutely correct. It pulls right out. Rather easily, too. Thanks, Subie.

The bulb is odd-shaped and has no wattage or other markings. Where do I find a replacement? Dealer? Pep Boys?

Thanks all.

Good! Any auto store - Autozone, Pep Boys, etc. Bring it with you. Can't remember the number but you can check your owner's manual. Changed mine while back, then changed it again to LED's this time...

Just bring it in and compare, how hard is that?

I'll bet it's a 7440. Check the Sylvania website for specific vehicle application.

Follow-Up

Pep Boys had the replacement bulbs.

I was incorrect above. The bulbs do, in fact, fact writing on them. Plus, I checked the Service Manual. The bulbs are 21W. Just be aware that the Sylvania package says "25W," but the bulbs inside the package are, indeed, 21W.

Cost to me: $7.60 (parts) + 0.00 (labor) = $7.60. The dealer wanted $20+.

Thumbs up Good!

Only thing I've found cheaper at the dealer vice Pep Boys is the battery.
