AC Pulley Bearing

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a 2007 Fit (220,000km) that was making a noise that I've tracked down to the AC Compressor pulley.
I'm planning on overhauling the pulley sometime in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone would happen to know the size of bearing that I would need?

Thanks!

I changed the pulley and clutch set on my GFs Fit a couple weeks ago, at 200k.

I just looked at the one I removed, I see the bearing is staked in place inside the pulley. I'm not sure how hard it would be to change JUST the bearing out of the pulley, or put it back in place securely.

Honda sells the new pulley set, it comes with the clutch plate in the box (matched set). It does not come with the field coil, that you have to purchase separately if you need it.

And right at this very moment, the parts may be on backorder.

Oh man, if you could take a few pictures of the pulley/bearing, it would be greatly appreciated! Especially if there are any part numbers on the bearing.

As for the field coil, it's on order and should be delivered today or tomorrow.

I looked into the "Pulley Set", and the best price I could find is $315 CDN. Assuming I can replace just the bearing, it would save me a bunch of cash.

This made me chuckle. Then I went and looked up who still offered dial-up service and found that earthlink (I was using them back in '00-'02) charges $25/mo for the service. That's just silly.

Naw, silly is what some of us pay for cable....... Wait, 'silly' might be the wrong word here.

But at least it's fast....

Sorry for resurrecting this ancient thread but I’ve got a problem with my Jazz/Fit. My airco makes the noise of a broken bearing when it is turned on (still works okay). When I turn it off, the sounds is gone. I suppose this can only be fixed by replacing the compressor? If if was the pulley bearing it would also makes this noise when it wasn’t on. Am I correct or can this be fixed by changing the pulley itself.

tx!

You could remove the belt and give the compressor pulley a fast spin, listen for the rumble of a bad bearing, that seems like a quick way to tell if the pulley bearing is bad.

But, Only noisy while clutch is engaged, pretty much isolates the possible cause to the compressor IMO
Assuming everything else is ok, Example, If someone forgot to tighten a few bolts on any compressor or its mounts, it could cause noise under similar conditions.

I realize this is an old thread, but if someone else sees this, you can save a bundle by just buying the double row ball bearing in the clutch pulley. This assumes the clutch friction surface is still ok and the bearing is the only problem. Honda wants about $270 for the clutch set which is the only way they sell the pulley. As another poster noted, the bearing is swaged into the pulley which has five grooves for the 5-rib Serpentine belt. I had no trouble pressing out the worn bearing which was making a lot of clattering noise. Mileage on the car was 215,000. Original bearing was discolored from getting hot. I was able to pinpoint the noise with a mechanics stethoscope with the car idling and A/C on. I used an appropriate size large socket to act as a tool to press the bearing out of pulley. The swages are not really needed, it's probably a belts and suspenders approach by Honda. The new bearing is a press fit into the pulley but just to be on the safe side, I used blue LocTite. Make sure everything is nice and clean using brake cleaner before reassembly.

The double row NSK (Japan) ball bearing is about $23 on Amazon. Size is 35x55x20mm. Identical to factory original NSK #35BD219 Honda P/N 38900-RLC-024

Dear KwazyKwaig!

I am very thankful for your in depth reply in this thread. After a long research i will be able to order the right bearing for my Honda Jazz and install it.

Your insights about the bearing installation method in another thread and the sizes and oem numbers were very much useful for me !

Thank you again!

Have a grat day !

Cheers from Hungary!

Thank you for letting me know my post helped, that's very rewarding. I always hope that my posts can benefit someone and save them some money, sometimes quite a lot as is the case here. $23 for the bearing, about $375 for the kit (which includes the bearing/pulley, clutch, shims, snap ring, nut) from a Honda dealer. BTW my 2007 Fit Sport now has almost 263,000 miles and still going strong. Still uses a quart of oil every 6000 miles, still gets about 35mpg. She doesn't owe me a nickel. Craig
