Modifying stock exhaust?

I just purchased an OEM exhaust finisher and I was wondering if anyone has ever modified the actual pipe of the muffler so that the finisher goes on straight rather than drooping down? I was thinking that I would just have to trim the upper portion of the pipe to get it straight. The water would still drain and come out of the water drain hole on the finisher.

I know a lot of people are going to say "just get a real ab/cbe" but I do not want one. I do not like the sound of big exhausts on autos and the power gains would negate the whole reason why I bought the car in the first place. I just want a nice OEM look to it, but without that cheap, sagging, Pepboys look.

Will I cause damage or harm emissions in doing this? I also don't want to mod the sound output too much either. Any advice or a link to a previous post would be appreciated!

I have been thinking about this myself...
and I thought that the stock muffler height is rather "tucked" up there,
so if you were to make it straight-ish then it would be going into the bummper...haaaa

k I just measured...
and if it is completely straightened out and is the same length as the
flaccid #%#$ OEM pipe then it would just clip the bumper and part of it
would be concealed under the lip (like around 1/4 ")

If you just modded the height and angle a little bit that should work, but
I dont know how much you need to clear the bumper by to keep it from
melting (if at all...idunno)

you should be ok, unless you plan on tearing the whole thing apart...
shouldnt change emissions any, maybe the general direction of the way the fumes diffuse (instead of just aimed down they diffuse up higher quicker) but I have not heard of anyone complaining about the smell, unless they got rid of the muffler altogether.
And the sound really should not change by any real amount (unless of course you again hacked the whole muffler up)

you can probably have a muffler shop bend a pipe similar to
say a megan axle back so that the can drops a little, get
that welded on, then use longer hangers and have a longer
tip of your choice welded on.

at the end, it'll probably cost about the same as the megan,
but you'll still be at stock noise level.

i personally like my megan axle back, but could live without
the noise.

The Megan Axle Back would be a way better route IMO. It is not loud at all plus adds character to rear of the car. The dual tips look GREAT plus no RICEY tone...which is a plus.
No sagging...looks OEM and certainly does not look CHEAP!!
There are many pictures of this axle back on these formuz, check it out....hope this helps.

Thanks for all the responses everyone!

So if the piping was straight then it would be going into the bumper. Good to know. I may have a buddy take a look at and see if we can make it work. I'm just really not fond of the way the finisher sags and I am patient enough to see if I can work it out. I'm thinking that I will have to do some trimming and a little bending to get this thing to look right.

I kinda figured that the emissions thing would be ok, but you never know. And if this whole thing fails, then I only lost $20.
