Cat cams

In another thread someone metioned they wanted to put a catcam in there FIT.

I checked out there site and they have them for our motor. I emailed them and the next step up from OEM is $460. Anyone have one of these?

Hmmm, I'd be interested in this. Could you provide us with a link please?

um, ya! you want to boost power with a hot set of cams, your going to make other sacrifices such as shortening engine life, erratic idle, etc.

catcams is a name I haven't seen in quite some time. I remember when they first announced they were offering them for a different car I had about 6 years ago. They are reground stock cams. They are/were very difficult to get a hold of or get emails returned. Alot of people tried ordering them but only a hand full of sets were made and shipped. They all ended up blowing up some rather expensive engines because they effed up on the cam followers. And a few sets were made with so much lift that it caused the springs to bind of which no suitable alternative exists.
I would NOT want to be one of the first to test them out. Do your research on them for other cars first. My group had a horrible experience with them, but I have no idea if others have or if we were an exception.

who was your group and how long ago was this? im guess about 6 years like you said.

it says when you look at the cam if it needs custom ones or not. most look like they work with oem.

this would be the ford v6 duratec crowd, we have a few options available as well as a "hot" cam off of the svt contour (along with the kinetics cams that are used in the noble m400). Like I said, communication with them was very difficult, the few members that got sets had issues with the "quality" (I can't substantiate those claims) with hostile responses from Cat concerning. And I'm not aware of anyone who's really pursued them since, like I said, it might be an isolated issue or wide-spread, I'd search out feedback from other boards they produce cams for.

i know ive seen them for bmw's. that might be a question to ask on there forum..

sbualuba 07-31-2009 05:34 PM

i was only looking at the next step past the OEM cam.

With any high perf cam ,, its not just a drop in deal, you may need new valves/springs/retainers/head cutting for valve spring length etc..

Any lift over about .425, PLAN on HP valve springs and retainers.. Or fix it later.

They have several versions some that retain the stock Springs, etc...

As for mine all of that has been done as well.

I used to drop off air cooled VW cams to be ground by an old man in Dallas.. I saw insane results of increased power on the short stroke 1200 cc engines for a couple of nights of street racing, before spinning rod bearings.. The larger 1600cc engines with fly cut dual port heads that increase compression lasted longer and made more power without needing to be revved as high.. One of my old running buddies VW Micro bus hauled us from Dallas to Galveston Island at 80 + MPH and held up very well for him until a guy made him an offer for it that he couldn't refuse... To get serious performance benefits from a long duration high lift cam, you will need to use high compression ratio pistons along with larger valves.

Yup power+speed=$$ how fast ya wanna spend.. :D

Ive been confused for 2.5yrs owning my fit.

In S, the transmission will shift to 5th? The holding gear made it seem as if it were waiting for me to manually shift which I can't physically do holding the hand controls and my steering wheel. Being in S feels soo much more responsive that's when you can feel that the final drive ratio is definitely shorter than base granted I've never rides in a base fit. Thx for the expeditious reply. This will make pulling out in traffic so much more confident.

leonine 09-02-2016 10:43 PM

If cat cams makes it they can get it.
