If swapping in a non honda engine, what happens with gauges..

I figured I'll start a new thread because of the nature of what I might have in mind. So here goes.

I have spend about two to three weeks reading on the K20 swap. There is no way I can afford it, especially here! US $995 for Kpro alone plus Shipping tax and duties, yeah add 50% to that. Also can't find the K20 here, only from CRV's. Found one with harness, but CVT tranny . Besides the electrial work is scarring me... I even looked for US Acura K20a3 on ebay and on K20a.org, good prices but to ship that here...again add 50% taxes.. and thats just the engine and hopefully 5 speed tranny....

So I said ok back to L15 MT swap for my L13 CVT. Got a quote for the entire swap...around US $4000 ! Then would come labor...

So back to scratching my head....turbo my L13 CVT? buy that L15 but still stay CVT untill I can find MT? search for MT for L13? but still need ecu from manual.....hmmm OK what about swapping in an older Honda engine.

B16 MT expensive..been there done that Turbo.. So I said if I am going to swap the engine in this manner I'll go H22, might as well get the most out of the labor of the swap. But again, Honda so damn expensive, would still need to mod engine to get some nice power. Then the blasphemy entered my head!!!!!...please don't stone me here.... Over here NISSAN is king, in a manner of speech. I can get SR20 motors everywhere at reasonable prices, way better than my beloved B family of engines. I mean EVERYONE runs a SR20 or RB20/25 here, even in trucks. I once saw an RB25 swapped in a JEEP! Point is, in my mind, to really take advantage of the swap work, an SR20 redtop turbo should make the Fit a little rocket.

Major hurdle, the Fits gauge cluster. How the heck did the guys that swapped the B engine get the clusters to work? Thats even if they did! Far less for a SR20 swap!! I read that it's better to install aftermarket gauges, which I have no problem doing, BUT I MUST have AC in this heat!!! How would I get climate control to work? how about ignition? Lights, indicators ... Any thoughts? Other than I'm crazy and I like lots of stress...

You must reware the main harness into the the new wiring harness you get for the motor.

the only way to make any of that work is to learn how to do wiring... there are conversion kits out for honda to honda swaps.

get someone who knows how to convert the signals being sent by your the sr20 motor so that the fit gauges can read them accurately.

my advice would be to boost the l13 and look for a manual transmission or save for the k20.

it would be far easier to start with a different platform or stay within the vehicle family. but if you're hell bent on doing it take a ton of pictures.

I would look at the B-series engines, B16 or B18 if they are available in your country. I'm not sure why you think there isn't much power in those stock engines to be honest. I find them more than enough in a featherweight car not to mention that they proven bulletproof engines.

I have an ep3-r with light breathing mods and an ecu chip giving around 225bhp in a 1200kg car which I find is enough unless you're planning to drag the car.

But if you really must get a non-honda engine, consider the toyota vvti engines as well which I've heard good things about.

Well, these are exactly my thoughts from the past three months. I don't want to change to another car but the Fit has an insanely weak engine.

You could boost the L13A, there are some cars with CVT tranny and HKS Turbo running in, I think, Russia or so. But, since the kit is originally developed for the L15A, there are some adjustments needed. I guess there's a lot of work concerning the ECU. One of the members here also says, that 120 HP were the maximum for the CVT, otherwise you should switch to MT.

The K20 swap is too expensive, so I'll stick to normal modifications such as header and mechanical work on pistons and so on. However, this is complex and difficult as well.

I love the Fit, and I'm not changing it! I am looking to see if maybe I can sell my current one and buy a Fit Sport manual, yuh know to save all the swaping headache, can't seem to find one, yet.

Yes, swapping the SR20 would be better in another car ! If I choose another Honda engine, it'll probably be D16 or H22. But the problem still remains the gauge clusters ....getting them to work. I could just use aftermarket ones, that way I won't have to touch the original harness! I still have to study weather the AC can still work...

It all depends on if I can find the MT gearbox, sure hope I do. I'll make sure to post a lot of pics if I go SR20....

CRVs use k24 not k20. Also search for k24 to see if you can find a cheap one. Otherwise... if you are going for the SR20... I WANT PICS.

thing is though, it is gonna take some fabing.
