anybody ran their car w/out the stock muffler??

just wondering, but i've worked for honda for 6 years and i haven't actually been this excited about a new release since the 99-2000 si. anyways, i tried the HFP muffler and found that it sounded pretty good, but as we were changing it back to stock, my friend said " go ahead and start it up without any muffler at all" , since it has a resonator before the end of the B pipe. so i thought " what the hell can't hurt anything!" to me it sounds better than most aftermarket " farrrrrt cans out there today"

if you have some free time, and don't have an aftermarket exhaust yet, go ahead and try it, it really surprised me........ especially when you hit about 5k- and up on the RPM's.... sounds really good. plus i did notice a "butt dyno of difference"

lots o' fun:D

MirrorWorks 06-14-2006 01:48 AM

Haha, that's somethgin i've done on a lot of my cars for a few minutes just for fun. It's called "unbolting" the exhaust. On my celica gt-s the car sounded like a freaking F1 car. My protege5 sounded really mean and felt a lot faster, and my WRX was DEFEANING and it sounded SUPER MEAN. It was hot :D I'm gonna try the Fit later on too :D

fit_4_a_king 06-14-2006 04:49 AM

You should hear how it sounds with just header, no cat and no exhaust...now that is what you call loud...not as loud as those annoying Harley's, but very close.

money_shot 06-14-2006 01:26 PM

i knew i was gonna get flamed for this post!!!!:) :)

gsilvers 06-14-2006 04:02 PM

OPEN PORT BABY!!! I'll look for the video of me backing my sentra onto the lift with the manifold off. It sounded like a helicopter was taking off.

Other than the legal issues with running without a muffler on the car, will this HURT the car in any way? I'm going to try this over the weekend and I have a feeling I'm going to like the sound... If so I could run a dummie pipe and leave the stock muffler off :)

gsilvers 06-14-2006 09:48 PM

as far as dammage? No there is no hurt. Running no muffler will be about the same volume as running a racing muffler with no resonator. The factory resonator is basicaly a straight through perforated core muffler.

you may like the sound. i do.:)
and until they come out with an exhaust i like, i'll continue to do without the stocker.

If you are asking in ref to running without a muffler, I'll post pics this weekend. I'll also try to get a vid clip so everyone can hear it. I can't wait...

expect things to start melting inside the spare tire area.

if u like it, get a muffler shop to make u a straight pipe from there. shouldnt cost no more than 40 bucks. bring ur stock muffler with u cuz they'll need a flange.

07TaffetaFit 06-18-2006 04:16 PM

I got some videos of accelerating, etc I am uploading right now...should be on here soon.

michaelfit84 06-18-2006 04:26 PM

I agree but probably will cost more than $40 though.

Wow! that sounds awesome!! Thanks a lot for the vids, I'm definitely gonna try this out

gettinafit 06-19-2006 09:32 AM

Doesn't sound bad! I thinks i'll try it, if it really is that good.... straight pipe here we come!!!!

gettinafit 06-19-2006 09:33 AM

In your opinion, does it sound louder than an aftermarket exhaust? Does it compare to an aftermarket exhaust? It is by chance quieter? (this i doubt, cause there is NO muffler! hehehe) Just wondering!

Thanks

leonine 06-19-2006 10:08 AM

Sounds Sweet! That will be one of the first things i do but i'll definately go to the muffler shop and get a straight pipe put on with a nice tip.

Thanks for posting!

avosfit 06-19-2006 10:22 AM

It is much louder than any of the aftermarket pipes I've heard. The sound is much deeper than most of the mufflers that are out right now. This comming weekend I am getting the straight pipe installed and will post pics, vids, and prices.

If anyone is interested in a straight pipe for there Fit I'll ask my guy and see if he can ship to us. I'll keep you posted. :)

carlosalicea 06-19-2006 10:55 AM

:D :D :D I think you guys are f***g with my peaceful life:D :D :D

I might try it too:rolleyes: ;)

Anyway this will hurt the power? My concern is cause there is no power inthis little son of the odessey

gettinafit 06-19-2006 11:39 AM

Being that it is louder than any aftermarket that you have ever heard..... i'm NOT going to do it!

Needs some sanity, wife will kill me!

But Thanks for the heads up!

blackgd3 06-19-2006 11:44 AM

But in the vids, i don't think it's very loud... Straight pipe exhausts are way louder in my opinion.

avosfit 06-19-2006 01:25 PM

It doesn't sound like a harley, that's for sure. But it is louder than the other exhausts I've heard. It would prob be louder than the average person would want.

carlosalicea 06-19-2006 01:30 PM

if you put a pipe you cuold also put a resonator in place of the muffler, then a nice tip and voala!!

what do you think?

Ricepuddin 06-19-2006 01:59 PM

What about gutting out the muffler?

I really want to do this but I'm afraid that the parts near the end of the pipe might get damaged. Do you guys think it's safe?

bobbied 06-20-2006 03:33 PM

Thats an interesting idea, an option to purchase a straight pipe with a nice tip thats bolts right on in place of the existing muffler. I would think it could be low cost and when you get tired of it or need to go to inspection you just unbolt it and put the old muffler back on. Nice idea, I am interesting in trying it, let us know if someone can make these for us, thx!

leonine 06-21-2006 10:14 PM

I'd really like to get this done but i guess that would require the muffler shop to cut the stock pipe before the muffler to use the connector. Then i couldn't replace it for inspection. I wonder if it would pass NYS emissions. Probably but i doubt it would pass a sight inspection.
