Spoon Air Filter.

If anyone is contemplating getting this, I would strongly recommend this filter. In all gears, acceleration seems to improve, especially acceleratng in 5th gear. Sound is also improved. You can hear the intake more and not have to worry about sucking up water with those aftermarket intakes!!!!

Just my .02

PS- Thanks to Ben at AJ Racing for the hookup!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the feedback. Quick question - did you look at the Mugen version tha Ben also sells? Advantages/disadvantages? Your thoughts much appreciated.

Hey ChrisG,

What do you think about the cleaning the Spoon filter with just compress air VS the oil type filters which requires a cleaner and water? My concern is it will be very hard to retore air flow when it get dirty.

Thanks

"seems to improve" isn't good enough for me to spend big $$ for their filter.

If I saw a before and after dyno chart with real results, I might consider it.

I am glad that you are happy with it.

This type of air cleaner cannot be washed with water. You can only use blow gun to blow of the dirt to make it clean. Spoon claims this filter should last atleast 50000km to 60000km.

The price for the Mugen air filter will be a higher then Spoon about 30%.

i was quoted $140.00 shipped for the mugen filter from AJ, adn then i called King motorsports who is the U.S. dist. of Mugen parts, and they quoted me $110.00 shipped to me, so it won't take much to figure where i'm getting mine from.

It's just a paper drop-in filter?

That's half the the cost of a CAI...I noticed ZERO gain on my Tundra with a K&N drop-in.

far as i'm aware the Mugen one shouldn't be paper, and here is a link to a mini review by one of our member's.

But that's the Mugen one...is the Spoon one paper?

I just feel that to get increased airflow; you'll need more than a drop-in replace ment filter. Some new unbaffled piping would be required.

Being as the spoon filter is not able to be cleaned and reused after so long, i'm going to assume it's paper.

and yeah straight piping will ofcourse flow better then baffled, taht's why alot of people keep the stock air box, but replace teh soft rubber with alum tubes.

Now we just need someone to start producing highflow tubing kits to replace the factory pipes.
