Short Ram Intake Choices
So, I've been looking at various short ram intakes for my 2008 Fit Sport A/T, and I've narrowed down my choices...sort of. There is a lot of info out there, and some of it is conflicting. So, I thought I would put all of my choices in a list and ask for some opinions from you Fit Freaks in regards to performance, fitment (particularly with an automatic transmission), quality, bang for the buck, etc.
It's probably worth mentioning that the previous owner of my car installed a larger battery, so that metal strap that is usually across the top of the battery is no longer there...nor is that long bolt that attaches it to the battery tray in the front. Several SRI's seem to use that bolt as a mounting point, so that could be an issue with some of these. Here are the intakes I am considering as well as my current thoughts about each: aFe 51-11282 Stage 2 Intake ($184.79) http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg This is definitely a front-runner. Many good reviews, and there don't seem to be any fitment issues. My main concern is, as mentioned above, that the previous owner of my car installed a new, probably larger battery, and that long bolt that attaches to that metal strap across the top of the battery isn't there any longer, and that's one of the mounting points for this intake. HPS Short Ram Intake ($162.00) http://www.dashzracing.com/images/P/27-581P-01.jpg Also seem to be many good reviews of this one. I sort of lean towards this one due to the fact that it doesn't use that battery bolt for mounting. Top Fuel Power Chamber 2 ($149.99) http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Top-Fuel-Powe...7E%7E60_12.JPG Interesting to me because it's not very common, but that also means that there's less information and reviews on it. I have read that some say that the sharp angle increases turbulence and, therefore, decreases performance. True? False? DC Sports Short Ram Intake ($97.45) http://www.drivewire.com/images/shop...2sri5023_1.jpg Nothing particularly special about this one, it seems. Except for the price, which is pretty cheap. Not sure whether it uses that battery bolt for mounting, though. Anyone know? Fujita Short Ram Intake ($164.99) http://www.drivewire.com/images/shop...JSR-1924CB.jpg Many good reviews of this one, but it uses the battery bolt for mounting. Weapon R Secret Weapon ($211.65) http://www.proimporttuners.com/image...01-154-101.jpg Pricey, for sure. Also not sure about whether it mounts to the battery bolt or not. Injen SP Short Ram Intake ($219.88) http://i.ebayimg.com/t/INJEN-SP-Cold...7E%7E60_12.JPG Also pretty pricey. Doesn't look like it mounts to the battery bolt, though. Numerous positive reviews for Injen stuff. So...these are what I am looking at right now. The aFe, HPS and Top Fuel are probably the front-runners at this point. However, if something like the DC is regarded as a decent intake, I'm not opposed saving $50.00 - $80.00+. Many of these don't seem to come with any sort of heat shield, which I find slightly odd. I should also mention that in regards to performance, I am not so much concerned about any sort of big HP gain because I know that SRI's don't provide a huge boost in that area. However, I did have a noticeable increase in fuel economy with an SRI (an AEM intake) in my previous car, so I would prefer an intake that would increase my fuel economy. Any and all comments, suggestions, information, etc. regarding these intakes are welcome, as well as other possible options. Thanks! |
the dc sports mounts the same way as the fujita. you might be interested in the k&n one too.

As for the K&N intake, I have read way too many posts on this and other forums about the fitment issues with those. So, that one doesn't really seem like an option. I've also run across the Apexi Power Intake, which looks a lot like the APS intake, so that's another option as well. |
Have you thought about the PRM?

Reviving this older thread, but which one did you end up with, and are you happy with your decision?

In addition, I think that my current battery size will cause some issues with the fit of many intakes. I may still install an intake at some point, but for now, it's still stock. |
I have the Fujita SRI on my A\T Fit and it works great but thinking twice about it, i should have bought the Injen CAI that works with the A\T transmission! The longer pipe would probably have robbed less low end torque! Fortunately, my DC Sports Header gave me back the low end i lost with my SRI....

Go with the Weapon-R with a K&N Filter; gave me 8whp,

Not quite as short ram, but definately consider the T1R intake. One of the best ones on the market.
A&J Racing :: Specials :: T1R B-Max Carbon Intake - Honda Fit/Jazz 06-08 (GD3/GD4) Thanks. Jason @ AJR |
rise from your grave old thread......i have been reading and hearing that putting any kind of air intake on the fit is pointless because the ecu resets making any gains not work, is this true for any year or just certain ones? or what!
|
My Sid Short Ram (SSR) intake seemed at the very least to improve fuel economy. Anytime you increase the CFM of air entering the cylinders, you have the capacity to make more power/be more efficient. The ECU doesn't negate this by "resetting". Om fact you WANT an ECU smart enough to know to add more fuel to compensate for increased CFM into the combustion chamber

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fit...a5e9b4c96d.jpg I bracket race my cars. I've only bracket raced this one twice last year and won at a Honda Day event. The car is consistent. It would not be consistent and this quick if the ECU was resetting and making gains not work. As a matter of fact, I have not experienced this with any of my cars that I have put on an intake. But that's outside the scope of your question. Never had this issue on the Fit though. |

while not exactly "good looking", I gotta say, that air box looks like it probably works damn well |
