JDM Conversion, Trade It In For A Base, Or Get A New Car?

I just got back from speaking with the Honda rep at my local dealership and they are not going to do anything for my gnarled up hood. Now I have to decide what I am going to do. I want to do a JDM conversion, but I don't have the cash right now. I was also contemplating trading my Fit Sport in for a base '08 Fit just before the '09s come out. And then lastly, I have been thinking about getting rid of the Fit all together.

Any and all comments/ideas are welcome.

Man oh man, I would have swore that people would have been all over this. It looks like, with one vote, the JDM conversion is where I will go. Errr...two votes? I had better win big in Vegas.

Why exactly would you do a jdm conversion? Honestly, what's the point? Like 4 people within a 40mile radius will notice the difference, and they will ask why you did it. lol

I personally think the money could be better spent elsewhere, but that's me.

Good luck no matter what you decide.

Eh, I don't give a care about having JDM ish just to have JDM ish. Nor do I care about people noticing what I have done. I mod my cars to what I want and what I like.

I like the JDM Fit's look more than the USDM Fit. I like the options available to the JDM body. I don't like the cost of doing the conversion, but it will still cost me a decent chunk of change to have the front end repainted.

As for money being better spent elsewhere, I agree and disagree. Truly, the only better place for me would be towards my car payments.

I was hoping that I might be able to lower my payoff, but after doing the math I would still end up owing around $3k more. Damn.

Seems pretty obvious to me. Get a new hood or get rid of it all together. You don't have the money to do a JDM conversion, unless you really want to do it and want to start saving up. In that case, drive with your gnarly hood for awhile until you can do it all at once. You're going to take more of a hit than a brand new hood would cost you in your trade, plus the downgrade. On the flipside, you don't sound like you're happy with your car anyway. But then you're thinking about trading it for another Fit, minus the extras. Keep the car, buy a new hood and/or start saving up .

Well, if you go JDM youll need to get it painted reguardless. Why not just get the front pieces repainted?

Yeah, I bought it from Kuhn. Their customer service blows! Hieu contacted me about his hood, but I am just not interested in CF.

I can get OEM pre-painted pieces from Norm Reeves Honda for $2K plus shipping. And I think I can get the welding done for a case of beer... maybe a suitcase.

if that dealership is not being cooperative, can you go over their head to the district or region? sometimes dealerships will be nicer if the people they answer to are pressuring them to do the right thing.

i'm out of the loop as far as the problems you're having with your hood... but i feel like if it's not your fault, why pay a lot just to be happy when the car's under warranty and they should fix it good as new?

go over the dealer's head and complain until someone fixes it for you...

unless you caused the damage somehow in which case, trade in the car on something you won't screw up

I have thought about it since they will be repainting my front bumper in the next couple of weeks to repair the areas where the fender and bumper meets. But I would rather put that $$$ towards something else.

Paint is only covered if there is a "defect" in the paint. They don't feel that my situation is a defect. It seems like it would take too much of my time to go above their head and get this fixed. I have always wanted to do the JDM conversion and now I have a half brained excuse. I am going to start saving.

Only the bumpers come pre painted.... Fenders, hood and core support still need to be painted, also they dont supply bumper/grill inserts in that price. Just a little FYI before you jump into it.
