Side Door Moulding

Side Door Moulding
With all the stories about new Fits getting dings and dents I was trying to decide on what kind and color of door moulding to attach, or not attach.
I looked in parking lots at all the diff. makes and how wide some of the newer cars had on their doors and color matched.
This is a Paint Shop picture of my A-Silver with a narrow strip. It may not be as wide as this is shown and I couldn't get the rear tip to taper off. It also has 1/8" chrome on each edge.
I don't think it detracts from the general look of the car if I do decide to go this route? It may also be lower down than shown.

Today’s mix of vehicles may not always find the errant door-opener landing her mini van door precisely on the molding strip. Several autos, domestic & foreign are shedding their moldings for the clean look. I call on several tier 1 suppliers of these products and believe it's also a convenient cost savings measure. My suppliers aren’t pleased to loose product only to have an obsolete process taking up space in the plant.

I think the molding's a waste of time -- it covers, what, maybe 1-2% of the door area? That basically protects nothing. The cheaper alternative, and better looking, is to park where there are no other cars and get a little exercise.

Door moldings
Hi GeeDee:
Can you tell me where you got your moldings? I have to park in a small lot at work & not to jinx myself, but I realize it's just a matter of time before something terriable happens.....
Thanks, LBW

my volvo has side molding on it from the factory. i still have door dings. why is the molding ineffective? because i have a car, but many people have SUV's and therefore the height difference allows retards who could care less be able to sling thier doors open right in to mine.
in the end, if you want your car to remain perfect, put you car in storage and never drive it. ever!

Hate to be the heart-breaker here, but the side moulding is not JDM. It's Jazz-designated which means just about all the Honda Fit variants outside Japan actually has this moulding, including mine. Personally I hate em....

Most continents... but North America!
So I am happy that it is available now for those who would rather save a few dents.
I agree that it is a matter of taste, so I will appose try & see if I realy like the look before I fix them permanently.

As I said at the start of this post in the UK these mouldings do not come as standard on the Jazz. They are a Honda aftermarket item that can be bought from any Honda dealer. They all come as black but can be sprayed to match your body colour by the dealer if you ask him.
Just like most Honda parts in the UK they are not cheap.
