"I.e" is short for "id est", which is Latin for "that is". It means "in other words". The abbreviation for "for example" is "e.g." short for the Latin "exempli gratia" meaning "for the sake of example". The two are commonly confused.

I'd add "IHE" to the list, meaning "Intake, Header, and Exhaust". Took me a while to figure out what that meant.

IE is also short for Internet *cough*useFirefox*cough* Explorer, but I bet you knew that. Thanks (and a rep) to Red Iron Crown for the clear explanation!

Another common one is "et al.", meaning "and others". Notice that the "et" does NOT have a period, as it is not an abbreviation. The spelled out version is "et alii".

Latin is apparently useful for something other than keeping Latin teachers employed.
