Fit noob here.

Just got a 2011 base model Fit in automatic to have a simple fuel efficient car. Is there anything I should know about the Fit that will help me be a better owner? I'm not really interested in racing, just getting from point A to point B and keeping my car well maintained and reliable.

This is my first new car and I'm used to driving an old beater from Oldsmobile.

Yeah! There's a little surprise if you haven't filled your first tank of gas on it yet. There's no gas door release on the inside of the car. Just push on the gas door on the outside to open it. Welcome to the forums.

Seriously? Wouldn't that make it very easy for people to steal gas from you? Thanks for the info.

It could, if they cared to. The Fit has a small tank, so, unless they catch right after you filled up... they're not going to get much for their effort.

Speaking of gas theft... I was at Walmart the other night and saw something interesting next to locking gas caps.

A wire spring, that fits inside the gas filler tube. I guess the idea is that the wire spring becomes an obstacle for anyone that tries to shove in a tube to siphon gas.

I thought about buying it... but wondered how chemically safe it would be, since gas is constantly flowing over it every time I pump gas.

(having a hell of a time finding it online, not very good search terms!)

Yeah I'm serious! Reason I mentioned it was because I got my new FIT myself only 3 weeks ago. And I sat at the gas station for 5 minutes reading the owners manual trying to figure out how to open that damn gas door.

Hahaha... just a memorable experience for a new FIT owner.

If you think it's gonna be a security problem you can buy a locking gas cap like many of the others on these forums.
