Got an offer at Carmax for $12K for my 2015 Fit EX 6 sd with 20K miles. Is this to low?

yah, kinda low but it could be market driven for your area. if ure planning on buying another car, take that appraisal to your dealer and see if they can match it and you pay less on tax.

IMO Carmax is always high

So sounds like they low ball the buy from people and reselling high. That's pretty much the MO in car sales though.

Thanks for the advise. In my state the tax advantage is another $500.

I think a big selling point of "Carmax" is convenience and ease.
Bottom line, they sell used cars. They aren't buying yours for anything but something that creates a viable profit margin for themselves on the selling end.

You can check their own site and get an idea of how much they sell vehicles similar to yours.
Bottom Line...if they are giving you 12000 they are probably selling it for several thousand more.

If you want convenience and ease. That means NOT having to advertise, solicit and sell your vehicle...then how much is it worth to you?

If you want TOP DOLLAR value? Then how much work is that worth to you?

Carmax isn't bad...but it's a "professional" used car buying and selling company.
Part of what they sell in both buying and selling is "ease of process".

I first tried to sell the car through Autotrader website but only got one response, but had plenty of people view the ad. The price was second lowest for my area and had fewest miles but still no interest. I think being a manual transmission turned off a lot of propeller. I think subcompacts are a difficult sale these days.

yah, its definitely market driven. id take the carmax offer or try to find a dealer that will match the appraisal you got from carmax on ur trade.

I talked to a VW dealer today on a 2017 Alltrack and was offered 12.8 trade... I might just bite.

I know it wasn't directed at me, but we have a Golf with 5,500 miles. Too early for any real insight for long term ownership troubles.

Only two things that plague ours...1. the paint is horrendous. It scratches by looking at it wrong. I would avoid black. 2. the rotors are already fully grooved. Looks like they have 100,000 miles on them.

Those two things aside, the car drives wonderfully, gets good enough gas mileage, and has sufficient power. It's a tight car.

VW is reportedly pretty stiff regarding their warranty. If you go with dealership maintenance, be prepared to pay more than double what a Honda dealer charges. If you perform your own maintenance, use VW approved fluids and keep the receipts.

Mcooper- on my GTI no issue. at about 13-14K miles right now. thing is so frikken fast it is funny watching these confused people trying to cut me off on the expressway. not that i drive aggressively or anything (havent been pulled over in over a decade), i dont let people give me crap.

my R is made in germany and honestly my mexican GTI is better assembled. at 2k miles i think i have a bad wheel bearing, but not sure yet. i got this faint howling that sound like a bad wheel bearing... could be the tires, will know in a few thousand miles. not dat i accept, but wheel bearing failures are pretty common on any car so i may just gotten bad luck.

overall though, these Golfs are awesome compared to anything out there in the price range i luv it. :nod:

Happy to report it was not a wheel bearing but the howling was from the Soundactor. i have a OBD11 enabling me to program the volume or turn off completely. i turned it off and no more howling. :p.
