New Fit owner

Hey all from Maryland! Just drove home in my new to me Vortex Blue 2013 Honda Fit Sport 5 spd. Its a big change from my 300hp Pontiac Solstice GXP, but the A/C, the extra space, and the cheap fuel is gonna be wonderful.

Hello, and welcome!

Can I ask why you traded in your Solstice? I was always curious about that car; I hear very mixed opinions about them. They always looked great to me.

that blue is such a nice color, congrats. that was my first color choice for the '12 i had long time ago, but dealers around my area did not have any in MT.. so went with a silver.

It was a love hate relationship. So much fun to drive but such a poorly engineered vehicle. The drivetrain was solid but the peripheral parts were a hodge podge of GM bin parts. In 1 year I had a water pump fail, a boost solenoid over boost and blow up an intercooler, a master brake cylinder leak, a rear caliper seize, a rear tie rod start to go, the clutch was starting to slip, the rear diff seal leaked and had to be replaced, the tires were 1000$ with alignment. And it only had 48000 miles on it!!! Not to mention it had 0 practicality. I mean even a miata had more trunk room. It basically put me in financial ruin and I'm hoping this little Honda can pull me out of it. It's certified pre-owned with 26000 miles on it so I'm hoping it'll last for a long time to come!

So GM sold you a good engine, and threw in a car for free? I’m sorry you didn’t have a better experience; I want to like the Solstice / Sky. I also wanted to like the Fiero, so some things never change, it seems.

The Fit should serve you well on the reliability front. I hope you enjoy it for many years to come.

That is basically it. Its really a shame because they could have been really solid cars had they just changed a few things. I understand they were trying to compete with the Miata in affordability and the S2000 in performance, but they sacrificed too much. The later models were marginally improved, but the failing water pump and random engine grenading due to timing chain failure lasted all the way until they stopped making them. It has been a big jump moving to the Fit. The last couple days have been interesting. Getting used to 3500-4000 rpm on highway instead of 2500 is nerve wracking! I wish there was a super tall 6th gear for highway driving.

And GM snatches another defeat right from the jaws of victory! See also the aforementioned Fiero, the Corvair, the ‘61 Tempest, Oldsmobile Aurora, the V8-6-4 engine, and numerous other ideas that were almost brilliant, but tragically flawed.

Yeah, the spacing between fifth and sixth gear is almost comical. I don’t do a lot of highway travel, so I can sidestep the issue. When I do have to sustain high speeds, it’s time to turn up the podcasts.
