Base Model Fog Light Questions . . .Tried Zeta?

Hi All,

My base MT SSM has an ETA of this week. I'm considering getting the fog lights added and have a few questions:

1.) Willl the dealer install aftermarket fogs or only Honda brand?

2.) If I do the install or have someone else do it, is there danger of messing up the electrical system, ecu or anything?Does it void my warranty?

3.) I can order the fogs at a reduced price from Bernardi or CollegeHills and have my local dealer install right?

4.)Has anyone tried the fogs from Zeta that are around $90.00 with the covers and everything? How to they compare to the real deal? Do they hold up?

5.) Is there a better aftermarket alternative that doesnt require me to destroy my car or electrical? :)

I installed the Honda ($200+) kit and it worked great. If you want the factory look from either the JDM/OEM style kits or the Honda factory kit, you'll have to cut the bumper. It's a lot easier than it sounds to do and difficult to screw up if you can stay close to the lines on the template.

I couldn't find any data on the Zeta or cheap ebay kits so I went with factory.

FWIW, the electrical connections are all done via connectors. There's no splicing or other permanent mods. The fog electrical integrates seamlessly with the rest of the vehicle. The one permanent mod is cutting the bumper.

Here's the DIY for the base factory fogs, not sure why it isn't in the lighting forum -

Thanks for the reply . . . any idea if doing this kind of work yourself voids the warranty (electrical) on the vehicle? I'm also hoping that someone will chime in with input on the significantly less expensive set from Zeta.

Cheers

I haven't had a reason to test the warrantee. The dealer would have to show the mod caused the problem to deny warrantee. That'll be harder because I used the factory kit. Sounds like another good reason not to go cheap.

The factory kit is also street legal in all 50 states (only operated when low beams are on). I suspect the JDM/OEM one is not. I don't believe very many states have this requirement but couldn't give you a number nor do I know anything about how the cheap ones work.

I'm considering doing the mod that allow the fogs to operate independently of the low beams, probably limited to the parking lights and headlights. There's another thread on the independent fogs modification.

I would go OEM... If you get the OEM ones installed, you also receive a 3yr/36kmi warranty to go along with the lights.

Good points on all . . . thanks much. Anyplace got the OEMs cheaper than Bernardi?

I got mine at Bernardi. The only tip I'd offer above what's in the DIY is to assemble all the install supplies and tools before hand. I had to buy masking tape, a short hacksaw and a couple drill bits. It would have been a pain to keep running to the store in the middle of the install.
