JDM Honda Fits have the option of an OEM LED dome light, which include the usual white flood light, a single-bulb map "spot" light, and a "fancy" option that lights up a soft blue the four corners of the lamp, all powered by LEDs. Today I installed it in my Fit, and despite no instructions (even in Japanese), I got it to work perfectly in half an hour. Here's how I did it...

The part number for the light assembly is 08E13-E81-010. Not like it will help at the local dealer; I ordered mine from japanparts.com. This is what I got:

The main light is powered by 6 LEDs that light up the reflective surface, creating a relatively uniform light throughout. The spot light is in the center, and the fancy lights are embedded in the bezel on the rear side.



Included hardware should include a mounting bracket, two screw brackets, two screws, two washers, and a ground wire.


First, pry out the lens of the old dome light

Remove and save the two screws

Disconnect the old light


Now for the new setup, take the mounting bracket (where the small tab on the inside is cabin-side) and insert the screw brackets, with the outward bend to the rear, and sandwiching the washers on the near side

Take the grounding wire and stick the pin into the empty slot in the connector

Install the mounting bracket using the old screws, sandwiching the ground wire between the existing mount and the new bracket

Note that if the little tab sticking down is on the left side, the light will subsequently mount with the switches toward the front of the vehicle.

Now connect the LED roof light, test to make sure it works, then screw it in and put on the lens

To be honest, I was impressed at the brightness and uniformity of the main light, but equally underwhelmed at the dimness of the "fancy" lights. But I guess that's the tradeoff for taking up only 0.1 W (compared to the main light's 4.1 W), and being able to practically leave it on all night without much effect on the battery. Was it all worth just over $200 for the item and shipping? Probably not, but it is unique to be found this side of the pond =P

Ok, so here's a question for you: could this unit be opened up and modded for more a impressive "fancy" effect?

I have been letting a "ceiling indirect lighting" installation project simmer in my brain for the past couple of weeks, but then I came across this fancy unit and if it'll save me some blood sweat and tears I may just go with this.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering about. Is it easily taken apart? Sounds like the answer is no.

According to Honda, yes it is compatible with the GD model

I got the Plasmacluster Honda Access one from rakuten for under $200 also (not including shipping/forwarding).

 

Thanks for the information, i found on RAKUTEN $115 average (we must use the forwarding service to NA), then i found on AMAZON.CO.JP the seller doesn't ship outside JAPAN, the website you gave me have almost the same price as japanparts before shiping cost i think will cost almost $200.

Buy it from rakuten, and ship it to tenso then. It will come out cheaper... ya gotta compare and see what's best for you.

 

This part number provided, does it work in a GD3? Looks really cool. Would not mind installing in my 2007 Fit.

Sweet! Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like ill be ordering it from Rakuten soon when a Tenso shipping sale comes up haha. Looks like a sick mod that wont take too long or cost a lot of money. Opening the door and having a bright dome light will be nice haha.

 

Go to this page search for the part number, one of the sellers is DESIR DE VIVRE talk to him and try to arrange the price + shipping, i think you can pay using paypal, I have read good comments about that seller here in other post.
