Glow Ring

Hi,

I saw in a magazine but can't find it anymore about a small ring that installs before the H4 bulb and it will store energy from the light, so when you have the lights off, it will glow as the parking lights are on. Has anyone bought it.

it's basically just a glow in the dark ring. u can pick it up from pep boys for $25. My friend bought it for his 02 altima and it was cool for a lil while but the power drains fast (30 minutes) cuz its just a glow in the dark.

Don't even think of butchering your headlights. This mod sucks. Sorry, been there, done that.

That set of exact directions has been around the web for a while now. When a good friend and I did a BMW bi-xenon custom retrofit into his gen 5 Prelude, we looked at it for reference. After experimenting, we actually found that the way the guy in the instructions mounted his LEDs did not optimize the light output into the tube. The concave cut is extremely difficult to cut in a proper and constant radius or to polish clear, so it ends up either masking or refracting a lot of the light from the LEDs. We ended up wet sanding the ends of the acrylic rod straight and perfectly clear, then used a narrow angle LED on each end. It was much brighter. Also, we found the 6 sided "curtain rod" he used didn't work as well as a round tube, as the edges allowed light to refract out of the tube instead of traveling inside.

But there are so many "kits" out there if you really want these angel eye things. CCFL kits are the brightest, but are fragile to work with. Actual BMW rings are lit by a small halogen bulb. I personally don't like the look of angel eyes on other cars. To me it's like putting a Mercedes Tri-star emblem on a Honda (I've seen it) since it's such a unique feature of BMW cars. What my friend and I did with the tubes was actually very different. And it looked really good! Still one of the most unique and best looking HID retrofits at least on that car I've ever seen.

As for opening up your headlights, you've just got to be real patient and careful with it. My friends who have opened up their headlights either for retrofits or to paint the inside surrounds have all had different results. Some didn't even need additional sealant when putting it back together. Just heated it up and reused the old glue still on the housing and it worked perfect, no condensations or leaks. While others have had condensation or small leak issues. So YMMV.

the car looks like it's afraid of something. It would look good if you covered up the top with eyelids, then it might look mean.

Where is this from? Did they buy the whole heads or mod it. I have almost no knowledge when it comes to lighting but this looks really sweet

This is a set of JDM HID headlights that have been opened up and the led rings attatched to it. They've also attatched 3 amber LED's on the sides.

Current going price on yahoo japan is approx 23,000 yen or around US$200-ish
