Reverse Front Passenger Seat?
Reverse Front Passenger Seat?
At some point, I may have a Fit. One question that may influence my purchase decision: is it possible to reverse the front passenger seat, so that it faces backward?
I ask because I've seen instructional websites, explaining how to build a sleeping platform and maximize the use of space. Some of those platforms fold back out of the way during the daytime. I'm thinking, if I remove the rear seat and reverse the front seat, I could (a) make that sleeping platform longer, (b) have more legroom while working at a laptop in the passenger seat, and (c) have more room for a folding or removable desktop surface in that position.
Since I don't (yet) have a Fit, I'm not sure that question makes sense.

He’s saying that mounting the seat backwards probably wouldn’t be safe for the occupant so you might as well extend the camper platform.
The fit camper concept works you just have to have the sleeping platform lifted to get 6+feet which helps give you more storage anyway.
If you are only using it while not moving you probably could do it but may have to drill new holes in the slide brackets

OK. Thanks. I ran across some articles where people were talking about reversing the passenger seat in a Prius to make more space; wondered whether it would help in this case. I couldn't tell for sure how much space people were getting in the Fit; saw some indications that people 6' or taller might not be comfortable. Plus I was thinking I might be able to set up more of a desklike situation, with more legroom and a wider desk space, if the seat was reversed.
Thanks for your reply. Sorry I'm "all around dumb." But how are passenger airbags relevant when the driver is the only person using the vehicle?
As I recall, the people who were reversing seats in the Prius were aware that they had to be careful of wiring and such. But I didn't notice any concerns about airbags.

I don't think you're going to find an answer here, just because I don't think anyone has ever posted about this idea before. I've been here for around three years, anyway, and this is the first time I've seen any mention.

Why would you even think that is a good option? Do you understand how air bags work?

So how is flipping the passenger seat backwards keeping you safe from side impacts when you remove the side air bag and install it backwards facing the driver? Think about it. You can't remove the air bag and install it backwards. It's built into the seat. For this to even work you would need two driver seats to keep the air bags in the right spots. Otherwise you just playing with your life for no real reason except to be different. You want to turn your car into an office or a camper? Buy a bigger vehicle that was meant for such things. But trying to install seats backwards for added space is for sure NOT the answer here. Come on people... smh
Whoa, lots of anger for a simple modification question. Down, boy. Take it easy. Too much caffeine for Christmas Eve.
I think your point is that reversing the passenger seat would make the passenger side airbag ineffective. OK. Point well taken.
So anyway, my question remains: is it physically possible to reverse the passenger seat in a Fit?
I appreciate the earlier suggestion that I probably won't get much useful input on that, as nobody here has talked about it yet. It may be easier on a Prius for some reason. But if someone does come along who can provide a constructive response, I'll welcome that.

Some members in this forum feel their opinions far outweigh those of others, simply because they've owned more Honduh's.

It looks possible probably take the foot brackets off and switch ends. You can also see in this video that you would not want that airbag plugged in so your srs system will have faults.
