Wow, that's a short head tube! What size frame is that? I haven't tried to put my 57cm in like that. (Pickup truck/second car is too easy.)

Great idea on mounting your bike inside of the fit. I am trying to do the same thing, but am having some trouble. Is the wooden board attached to the car or is it free to move? Have you had any problems with the bike tilting and falling over during turns?

The wooden board is not anchored to the car, but the bike is anchored to the board though. This creates an "L" shape that stabilizes the whole jig. So far, no problems. In my case, the seat is also wedged in between my handlebar creating more stability. Hope this helps and good luck!

hah, nice I did the same thing. I actually wrapped mine with black non slip drawer liner, so it blends with the interior and grips the carpeting better.

Thanks for the answers lexfit. After two attempts, I have it semi-working! My bikes' wheelbase is to large to run it parallel to the cargo area, but it fits diagonally. During the first attempt, I used a board that was only 3.5 inches wide and did not impart enough stability. Then I tried a 11 inch wide board and it works fairly well. The setup fits both my mountain and road bikes. When driving with the bike attached, visibility out the rear and sides is decent. However, under moderate acceleration and braking, the board and bike tends to slides forward and back. Ill have to get the nonslip liner and try it out. Great suggestion 743power! I was thinking velcro, but it will probably tear up the cargo carpet after a while. Here are some pics for inspiration .

I've been doing this since last October

I have some details and video here:

Building a cool bike mount inside your Honda Fit | Low Cadence
A different kind of bike Fit - The 2009 Honda Fit | Low Cadence

The bike in the video is a 58cm Tarmac Pro - so it isn't small.

I love my Fit!

Want to put a bike in there and your kids?

One more reason for cyclists to love the 2009 Honda Fit | Low Cadence

one more

It is not like something everybody did not see, but I have attached one side of velcro under my mini-rack. It sticks to the carpet very strong - a little bit hard to take it off when not in use...
Just in case I starp it with one bungee cord. The sizes of the bikes - tri is 54 (it is like 56 road bike) my wife's 48 road bike and 18 mountain bike. No seats lowered.

stlfit, yours was what eventually lead me to fit both my bikes in the Fit. I too needed a bit of a fork riser of some sort, seems the 700c wheels make my bikes too long so they both needed to be in there at an angle horizontally, and vertically

Way late...but glad to help. Mine's been great. Plenty of storage space and a great discussion piece at my LBS.

I tried a bike rack that strapped to the tailgate, and didn't like all the metal pieces that were attached to the hatch. So, I then seen these posts and decided this was the way to go.

I also have a hitch from etrailer.com for my 2008 Fit Base. I purchased a cheap hitch mount bike carrier from Harbor Freight Tools, and I plan to buy a better one from a Thule dealer. The interior home made rack is brilliant for keeping the bikes protected from theft. I plan to buy a light duty 8 foot trailer chassis to build a utility trailer, and I'll probably build a bike carrier within the trailer as well. I have an old pickup truck, and it would be handy to have a trailer in case the truck breaks down and needs to be in the shop for several days. My Fit can tow a trailer loaded with the equipment I carry in my early 80s Toyota Pickup.
