My Homemade Cargo Cover

I decided I didn't want to front out the money for a factory cargo cover so I went to the drawing board. I got a cardboard box and cut out a pattern. Drew the pattern onto the sheet of steel I picked out. I added an extra 1/2" of material to the side facing the seats. I cut it out with a cutoff wheel, put it in a break and bent the extra 1/2" down to stiffen it up a little bit. I haven't painted it yet but here it is.

I'm actually going to run some rubber around the outside of it to keep the edges smooth. I'll get some finished pics soon.

what are you using to secure it? I'd be concerned of it becoming disloged in an accident and lopping my head off.

Good luck keeping your head on if you get into a serious rear ender. That sheet of steel will chop your head off like a hot knife on butter.

If I were you I would maybe consider attaching one or two straps to the cargo cover on the bottom (don't ask me how) and then connecting them down to the tie downs to anchor it. gotta keep that head on.

When I built this I made it with safety in mind. In order to put this in, you have to fold down the back seats and slide this in place. The seat keeps it from coming forward and there are 2 pieces of plastic on both sides that keeps it from coming up.

I see it now that I am at home. I didn't see it when I was in the office. The company blocks a lot of stuff.
