Question Painting the dash

I'm thinking of doing a paint job of the whole dash area as it's looking a bit worn (and I feel like a change ).

I know how to remove the panel for the stereo as I did it already to change the head unit, but is it possible to remove the whole dash panel (the area shown below)? I've tried searching for this but couldn't find anything..

Thanks in advance!

I know that some on here have painted the trim pieces but I dont know anyone that's painted the entire dash. I think the dash is pretty much a one piece deal. This may be a little difficult.

if the dash is all one piece ... like i think it is... you can mask off that area and paint only that portion of the dash. i do custom interiors but i havent done my car yet. its been a long debate of what colors i want and if i want cloth or vinyl. but when i don ill def post pics up.

The instrument cluster and visor are two seperate pieces that can be removed from the dash. The raised portion that surrounds the center vents cannot. The rest of the center stack that goes around the radio and HVAC controls as most know comes out with the radio and can be painted. This applies to the GD only as I have taken one of these apart, the GE, I'm not so sure about.

@ previc93 - i dont think i'd be brave enough to attempt that one, lol. but i'm thinking, if they can take it out to repair what's behind it, isn't it possible for us to take out to paint?

@ grtpumpkin - how'd you manage to get those parts out?

Supafly, the instrument cluster is actually really easy to remove the whole thing is held in with a half dozen screws and some clips. Start with the inside of the visor, which is held in with three phillips head screws. Then the cluster surround (which is carbon fiber-ish in my car) Which is held in with just clips. Then the upper visor which is only two screws if memory serves. Check in the interior mods forum for a DIY to be sure...

I know others have chimed in but from my knowledge while the gauge cluster and radio can be removed, as well as the glove box, the entire dashboard behind it is one piece and must be removed as such. I have heard once you remove it you're likely to not get it back in the same and will have rattles. Not sure how true this is, I might remove the whole thing then mask.

i would never do either. Taking the dash out will never go back the same way, like secondspassed said. And painting it will look cheap imo. I have visions of this pos accord that i saw once with a painted dash, looked like hell.

removing dashboard

As far as I know you can remove is the whole dashboard since it was connected and it is not easy to fullout. For me it is not advisable to paint the dashboard it will not look good.

thanks for the replies guys. it sounds like it's not an easy job to do and it's risks might not be worth it. i found the video on youtube of a supercharged fit which is blue and has a blue dash, etc. but i don't know if this comes stock or is custom? what u guys think?

here's the link: YouTube - Cruising home from getting breakfast

That is the worst video demonstrating anything I have ever seen! You barely see the dash, you don't see the gauges, you can't see the road hardly. Sheesh. To answer your question, yes it is just the gauges/A/C panel. And the steering wheel too! I don't care for it myself....

ima paint my whole dash a gloss black color and may have some silver accents in it. if you do it right it wont look bad. the dash will probably rattle... i have 85a innovative mounts.. everything rattles in my car... but ya putting it back like everyone said will most likely cause a rattle. unless you put foam in all the right places. but as soon as i get of my lazy but and do it ill get it going and post some pics.

id be hesitant bc i have yet to see a car that has a painted dash actually look nice. If it were professionally i could understand doing it. I have seen a bunch of cars that have sprayed the dash and in a year it looks like crap. Plus i would never attempt taking the dash out, going back would be a pain.
