Replacement Speaker Suggestions

What have you tried for replacements and how did they work? I would like to enhance the stereo system a bit for the wife and was wondering what direction to head. Thanks Rick.

Out of curiosity--does anyone know who manufactures the Fit's OEM stereo system & speakers?
Is it the same manufacturer for Base, Sport & Navi models?

Most honda speakers are manufactured through Panasonic. Usually a car company will offer a "premium" stereo with upgraded speakers as you get into more expensive models. I will say that the only Fit that I have worked on is mine so they could in fact use the same drivers among all three models.

As for the choices on speakers, get to a local shop with some music you are used to (edited since you will be in hearing distance of the public) and jam out. When I used to work at a shop I would give people the low down on how the radio worked and would leave them alone to see if they liked what they hear. There are numerous differences between speakers, and what sound good to one person doesn't always sound good to someone else. The front speakers in my Accord retailed for $1500 and the set that's in the Fit retail for $700. They do sound different, but the entire setup is different between both cars.

Don't be afraid of name brands, but don't count out something that you have never heard of. If you have the factory radio, or just a simple aftermarket than stick with a simple coax. It will be a two way (midrange and tweeter) in a single chassis. You will have to make a small speaker ring to allow enough depth but it should sound better than the OEM drivers in there now. If you have an outboard amplifier go for a good component set that will allow you some flexibility in the install.

Haven't installed any other brands but these are great from my personal listening in friends' cars:

Hertz HSK165
Polk Audio dB
Focal Polyglass V2

Then again that's just me. Best thing to do is to audition several speakers, and see what you like.
