coolist seat cover idea

I went to macies( great sale on quality linen today) to buy bathroom sheets for the front seats. These are bath towels that measure 33x60. I plan to taylor them for the front seats. I will post pictures on this thread when finished. I believe this plan will work best for me. I am involoved with baseball and right now it is kinda hot and sweaty... These seats may as well have plastic on them when it is hot. I dont know why but these seats are just different.
What I plan to do is lay the towels on the seats, remove the headrest then get a sharpie and start marking for cuts and stitching. Its gonna be nice and practical. I can remove them easly for wash.

Ive got the bath sheets/towels back from the talor. Boy they make the seats more comfortable. No lint problems. The taylor job allows the head rest and seat belts to function. The air bags are not obstructed. I will post a picture soon. Of coarse I have the storm silver with black interior. The seat covers are light grey so it takes out some of the heat build up... Just think I can easly pull these covers off to wash them over and over and over. They look good as if I paid money for them.

in short, all they did was place bath towels over the front of their seats. i still don't understand why.

Probably because everything sticks to the seats and really shows up on black. The last car I had with black seats looked pretty bad after five years. Of course I always had to hold my drinks between my legs because the cupholders weren't big enough to hold any fast food drinks. But the lint sticks a lot worse on the Fit seats.
I'll probably put some sort of covers on them but I wait until someone makes some nice ones.

I got a terry cloth cover for the pillow I use on the driver's seat, and it sheds all over the plush upholstery. Maybe if you wash the towels well a couple of times that will eliminate the lint.

Quality bath sheet seat covers are a brilliant idea!

Here in TX it is Too Darn Hot half the year, and it helps having a nice soft cotton seat covers to protect both your upholstery and your hiney.

Some low-end commercial seat covers look crappier than towels, and most are made of awful synthetic plastic stuff that is clammy and nasty.

These DIY towel jobbies do not obstruct the airbags and can be easily removed to be washed etc. Unlike the cheapo commercial ones, (which cover the headrest too) you don't have to take the covers off if you want to put the seats into refresh mode which requires removing the front seat headrests.

And if you decide you are tired of them, (or want to upgrade when some decent ones are available at resonable cost) they still function beautifully for their original purpose, what's a couple little holes gonna do, keep them from drying you at the beach?!

Thank you bigFit for the reminder than sometimes the simplest solution is the best.

BTW, the beige seats don't seem to lint up so bad -- or is it just the color?

Sorry about the picture problem. I need to modify them to make them perfect. they do not leave lint. I bought upper quality bath sheets at macies when they had a sale. when they get laundered in the future I will use a roller on them or I could hang dry them.
Why do I use these typ of covers? They are thick and comfortable they soak up my sweaty back after basball and I can wah them. No my car will not smell like a locker room. For the money these covers are great
O.K. to see the pictures click on this link and then click on 2007 _honda _fit

neat idea but not very pratical, i loves the look of the stock seat so placing towel on it is just out of the question. Don't get me wrong, it's very creative and will protect the seat but it just doesnt look apealling to me. Now if you would take it to a uphostering place, they will measure and make u a complete stretch seat cover that will fit perfectly and u would have a lot of option for material wise. It'll cost a bit more but it certainly worth it

final word on home made seat covers

I dont want to block the airbagsby by putting seat covers that fit totaly around the seats... This meets my objective fills my need to be creative. You are correct there are alot of materials out there to use for a job like this. In the past I have consulted profesionals and shops on these things. Well I have to be honest It is not really totally my idea... A company makes a cover similer to what I did for the purpose of the person getting back from the club or beach. You just take it off and wash... besides it is very comfortable and an improvment over nothing.
You must be interested in some sort of way to be looking at this thread... Good luck and thanks for your reply. I am going to close this subject out. Any one with questions about this subject send me a private messege... cheers

I've always had Hawaiian print seat covers and I didn't want to give them up so I just customized a set with openings for the air bag and seat control. The down side is not being able to remove the head rest if you ever want to use leisure mode (which I never do and probably never will).

Actually there is a company that sells these! I saw them in the SkyMall catalog last week, and ripped out the page...hold on....here's the link:
SkyMallAuto & Hardware - Ez Fit Car Seat Cover

they look great too me because I have a dog, and I love the fact that you can just pull em out and throw them in the washer.

Im buying a set asap. Unfortunately they dont fit the back bench.
