DIY: Maplight CHEAP! Thanks MOM!

Well got a nice stocking stuffer today....
She got me a random LED tap light style light. it's made by Sylvania and it's called the Dot-It. IT was really cheap I think and it's powered by 3AAA batteries. It is super bright and fits perfectly on the plastic section where the rear view mirror connects.

I think she got them at Lowes.
I still need to see how the beam pattern is at night.
I'll get a picture of that to.

It's already got 3M self adhesive tape in the back. So no drilling required dude.
Once it's on, it doesn't budge. Works pretty well just puts another light in closer distance.

Very cool! I just ordered a couple - one for the glove compartment and one for the trunk area.

Did you know that they can be repositioned many times without leaving any residue or other marks?

There are look-alikes, but the Dot-It is the only one that I've found that can be repositioned.

I love it and I have to have one. I'm always looking up thinking I have a maplight all the time.

EDIT: You'd better use good batteries. I can't believe you can only access the battery replacement panel from the backside...you know...the side you stick to things.

i found some other brand name ones at costco but I think it's bigger in size than this unit. it was $13.29 for a 3 pack. If it sucks, it'll go back.

I just ordered two of those lights from Amazon today to see how they work (in purple, b/c it's my favorite color, LOL). I'll put one in the trunk and one above the rearview.

I was wondering if there was a tap-light that I could buy to stick in the car to get a bit more light; it'd be nifty if these work well. Your silver one looks nice; goes with the decor in the Fit. I just wanted to be loud and colorful, hehehe.

I was reading reviews on Amazon, and apparently there's a way to access the batteries by just twisting off the top of the light. I'll have to see if that's true once the things arrive at my house.
