i used flat black paint. they are holding up well.

i painted them when i changed my foglight bulbs to yellow bulbs. i can't believe i didn't do it sooner. looks much better now

there's a stick in the lighting iirc. the light is very easy to remove. i wouldn't mask it off, it'd be easier to remove the actual light.
