My engine mounts

So I went to the shop today to have my usual maintenance. I let my mechanic ride shotgun so he can asses my car. Look what he found...

Here's two shots

Fail mount

O well, replaced it with OEM mounts again.

I noticed that my mounts are allowing my engine to move a bit more with the added power now on tap but think its OK and to be expected... I have to be under the car soon so I'll check them with my fingers crossed.... I think that having light wheels and light stock size tires. Never dumping the clutch, being careful to blip the throttle to match revs on down shifts and getting off of the throttle on up shifts has helped me avoid engine mount destruction.... I think I am seeing the need for an upgrade one of these days but not soon I hope.

Solid mounts were wonderful on an old 66VW Beetle with a loping idle from many performance modifications including a radical cam..... When you stood away from it you could see it vibrate... It was so bad that you couldn't make out what was behind you in the rear view mirrors and nuts and bolts were in constant need of being tightened....It was worse than a Triumph or BSA twin cylinder motorcycle and nearly as fast. I don't think I could stand to listen to all of the plastic interior pieces on my Fit buzzing as they self destructed at cruising speed.

Is that your drivers side transmission mount found right underneath the battery? If u have an AT, that mount goes bad FAST. I had mine go out at around 32k. When i would accelerate (like sorta tap the throttle) I would feel a hard KNOCK and i didn't know what it was!! Drove me insane for like a month, but i couldn't find the broken mount! Finally i was lookin hard again and finally found the broken mount!! $100 later and 50k miles later, my car and the engine mount is PERFECT. No problems at all! I still check it periodically tho.

Oh and i replaced it myself. Was super easy just supported the motor just a tad (jack + wooden block under the oil pan) and removed the bolts and replaced it. Done in 2 hrs easy.

Will doing this fix on the transmission mount be effective in prolonging the life of the other mounts? Thanks for the good info, I am thinking I will have to do this sometime in the future even if I don't use over 1/2 throttle.

The same phenomenon also happens on CVT-equipped GDs over here. Looks like A/Ts are on the same boat eh?

On my previous oil change, I had the same transmission mount swapped out too. I was half-expecting it to be in shreds, given the horror stories of the CVTs eating their mounts, but all I found was a single tear on the outside. Mine's a manual-gearbox model by the way.

How bad was yours?

Yes. Just take the battery and battery platform out and you can inspect it. I recently changed mine out and filled it with rtv silicone, stiffer, but no extra vibrations. Do not buy Febest brand mounts, they don't fit out fits.
I'm at 100k and all my mounts are torned up!!! inspect them all.
