Those sleeves are put there primarily to sop up any excess fluid that might leak or trickle out of the reservoirs. You'll never have this happening in daily driving, but it can be a concern if you take your car out to the track for races, autocross or time attacks.

This is important for brake fluid in particular, as brake fluid is harmful to paint - hobbyist model makers even use it as a cheap (but dangerous/toxic) paint stripping agent.

Of course some people put reservoir socks just to look cool, too.

Why is the GE engine bay so ugly compared to the GD? I think it's all that space in front of the engine, but the least they could have done is throw a cover on there to make it look a bit nicer. I'm sure the weight being transfered aft of the previous configuration is helpful, but still. I kinda wanna dress it up in there, but it's not a good starting point IMO. I guess my euro car roots are showing.

This is a K-series engine cover someone put on their Fit that I found a while back from Japan. It doesn't fit, but it does show that things could look a little nicer, more easily, if there were some sort of cover available (like the carbon one for the GDs.) At a takeda or weapon R cold air, a few splashes of color and it's off to a decent start.
