JDM Damper/Strut Compatible with USDM?

Hi, I plan to run a basic damper and lowering spring combination eventually, since I already have springs.

Since not many companies are making struts for the USDM, and i have seen some people use Showa Dampers on USDM fits, or like J's racing dampers, and such, what would you need to do to make a JDM performance strut fit the USDM fit?

The only thing I've heard is the redrilling of holes into the JDM strut. Is there anything else needed to do?

Thanks.
