Help me choose next brake setup!
Soo... Next summer i will be doing a major brake upgrade, i just want your toughts on what i want... Most of my driving is DD, but i also do lapping & autoX... The stock brake setup is pretty decent, but i just can't settle for good'ole OEM
First, i'm planning to put Brembo slotted discs, but i know that apexanimal loves thatrotorshop... anyone else that tried them? Next, Akebono pads, i heard great things about Hawks, but i've been told they use strong bonding chemicals that can damage wheels and paint...
For the rear, I am tempted in changing for Insight drums as they are lighter... Finally, i think i will leave calipers stock (maybe powder coat) and put goodridge SSB brake lines...
Oh, i almost forgot, i will probably put ATE premium blue brake fluids too...
Please, leave your comments!!!
P.S. i don't want to put a BBK as it would add weight, and don't worry a nice set of sticky tires will follow!

Yes, indeed, but they are sold under the Power slot name, they have cryo treated rotors for around 220$ a pair... about 80$ more than brembo... IDK brembo has such a great rep... is it overdone? I must admit, It was the other brand i was considering, and maybe EBC...
BTW... can anyone suggest where to buy?

I have bronze wheels, which means I rarely clean them, and I've got 37k on my fit, 30k of that with the same HPS pads. I've never had an issue with them harming my paint or wheels.
I'll have to replace the OE rotors in another 25k or so, I will probably use brembo or EBC blanks (non drilled, non slotted). If not OE rotors, get brembo blanks. You want the highest amount of contact area you can get, and a blank will get you that.

Ok thanks, glad to hear that you like your hawks pad!
I don't want to put drilled as it's likely too cause fractures around the holes, as for slotted, i think it will help when discs are wet... it will also prevent glazing, without turning my pads in gratted cheese
There's also discs that are only slotted mid-lenght that would be the best IMO

I daily 60 miles, and autox about once a month. Hawk makes good stuff, and slotted rotors will do you more good than drilled. Drilled develop cracks. Slotted allows the gasses developed from the pad material + heat to escape preventing fade. My setup will actually be Powerslot slotted rotors (decent price) and EBC greenstuff pads. My friend just put his Hawks on his EG so i'll have something to compare to. Bad part is this doesn't help you NOW lol
Ideally, i'd just do the ITR brake swap and call it a day
edit: ATE super blue brake fluid is awesome! Here's a tip i got from an avid club racer and good friend: Go ahead and put the super blue in, but when you flush the super blue out after a couple years replace it with ATE Type 200 which is the same fluid as the super blue but amber in color. This way, you can tell that the fluid is completely flushed when your color changes from blue to amber out of the bleed screw

i'd go with powerslot and ss lines. you'd be good

Lol... Thanks for the tip, but i did mention i did'nt want to go the BBK route, too avoid adding unecessary weight
Indeed!!! That's exactly the reason why i'm going with this!!! you sir, have read my mind!!!

Personally I don't see anything wrong with blank rotors and I never really saw the point of slotted or dimpled ones.
As mentioned cross-drilled stuff tends to weaken or fracture. If cost is no object, then by all means...but those of us who want their rotors to last a while would be better served by plain-looking blanks.
Here u go:
http://wilwood.com/Promo/Promo1.aspx
Wilwood has a promotion for a big brake kit for the fit. For $500, you get bigger rotors, 4 pot calipers, and everything you need for a bolt on kit.
ON the site it doesn't show "fit", but it's part number 140-6163-R, which is the civic with 262mm rotors. I would call wilwood when you want to place the order tho just so they know it's for the FIT.

That'a a sick deal for a sick setup! even includes SSBL... but idk... i mentioned i did'nt want BBK (mainly for weight), i'm concerned that my 14" steelies (for winter) won't clear them (hell even my 15" will probably be problematic)... and adding spacers isn't really in my plans... i already rub with +40ET... Anyways, thanks for bringing that to my attention!!!
Would'nt the 11" rotors do the job? it could be a tad bigger break kit...

I know some people say they've had leaks on similar designs...

lol... i'll need to upgrade my sig
Well, i hope that there's still some people who are going to pitch in on this! But i've made some more research, and it seems that from tirerack reviews, dba discs suffer a lot from cracks... some people talk about hairline cracks developing after only 2 track days!!! so might go with power slot cryos after all... but i would still like more input! I think this could be very informative for people who are searching for good brake setups in the future!!!
Woah!!!

Yup I'm using Ferodo DS2500 on my car. Currently using the 2nd set of them now. I use power slot rotors and do recommend them if u want slotted rotors. And that should be more than enough braking power if u are running stock engine with I/H/E kinda stuff and not doing back to back crazy downhill runs 10times a night kinda thing.
If u have more budget to play around with, DBA 4000 series & Tarox are also very nice stuff to get. DO NOTTTTTTT bother with Japanese made hi-performance rotors coz they're weak according to my friend's mechanic who's got racing experience in Macau & China.
I'm thinking to do the ITR 11" brakes next year coz it's a MUCH safer setup to go for compare with the Wilwood $500 bbk IMO. Friend who had wilwood BBK on his VW before always complain that the rotors warp easily. And man, use such a thin cotton pin kinda thing on calipers? Ehhh no. If I have that kinda engine power to make use the potential of 4pot setup I'd go with SPOON twinblock(OEM quality)/alcon universal kit + 2pcs rotors(I do have a machinist I trust in town to make everthing work).
Anyway that wilwood setup may look cool, but not bling enough for a show car I guess.
