Got a Xmas present today in the mail from my friend in Japan! Pretty interesting stuff I must say -- the big book is just as it says, and is loaded with ads, articles, parts catalogs, etc. all for the Fit. I never even knew this book existed, and even though it's from 2004 it's got stuff in it we've never seen here. The smaller book is the JDM 2006 Fit Owner's manual, and is the same thing as what you got stuffed in your glovebox, but just Japanese. It's pretty interesting too as it details everything about how the JDM Fit operates and is maintained. The last thing is the CD, which is the Honda Electronic parts catalog for 2005. It's probably the most interesting as it's the complete parts catalog/listing for all JDM Honda models and variations from 1996 - 2005. Not a bad present at all.

Yup, it's what I went to school for, plus I lived there a number of years as well as my wife's Japanese too. Aside from time at work and with my family (parents, etc.) our house is pretty much 100% Japanese most of the time.

 

Oh yes, I counted 33 pages just devoted to body kits alone already. Some are pretty sweet, but then some are like -- what the hell were they thinking?! Nice to know what out there though if I ever do a conversion.

All good finds. It's a shame that there weren't more links for just parts and stuff in the guide. They had a section of tuning parts that was fairly extensive, but no links -- just co. ph#'s which is useless for most people here.

The snowplow, jutted out bumpers come from the Bosozoku (bike/car gangs) aesthetic -- the idea is to make the form of the vehicle as extreme as possible to stand out and make a statement, and often to piss people off.

 

lol they think its going to piss people off? i think its more likely to make people laugh. i mean why would you want to make your car extreme in the ugliest way? xD if i were aiming for extreme body kits i would probably give the fit a bmw front bumper and a g35 rear bumper lolol

 

Well, I'm sure some people do laugh, but generally, when you got 1 or more cars kitted up in this kind of body kit sitting out front of your apartment at 2-3am with no muffler, or at least a very loud muffler, revving their engines to the limiters non-stop trying to wake up the whole building, then you get pissed off. They also will just drive around the neighborhood really slow revving the engine just to piss people off too. Of course, not everyone who has one of those body kits is into that kind of activity, but a lot of the styling comes from the gangs that do. VIP comes from it as well, although it's come into its own as a styling trend in general so now you see people doing exactly what you mention -- putting Euro luxury influence into an everyday domestic (JDM) ride. Realistically, it's a lot more elaborate overall because everybody influences everybody, but that's the basics of where it at least comes from. Another thing to keep in mind is that Japan has a national auto inspection that's fairly strict, so running body kits and springs, etc. that break those regulations is fun for many people (gangs)-- you take them off at inspection, then put em' back on afterwards, and it pisses the cops off because they usually can't do much to stop you.
