Anyone tried the Continental extreme contact dws in 205/50/16?

 

I haven't tried that specific tire but I replaced two stock 185/55/16 rears with 205/50/16 and the result is immediate improvement in looks and handling. Have you gone the 205 route yet?

 

Yes, this is exactly what I'm running on my 2018 Fit EX with stock wheels.

 

I just received mine from Tire Rack the other day. Haven't gotten them installed yet. Interested to see how they do compared to the 185/55/16 kuhmo ecsta pa31s. I don't even have 30k miles on them and they're already worn down to 3/32 to 2/32. Here's to hoping these ones last a lot longer & perform better. Those kuhmos are mediocre tires. Would never recommend them or ever buy kuhmos for another vehicle.

 

How do you like them on your Fit?

 

Well, everyone drives differently, so YMMV.

I've used something like 6 sets of 205/50/16 Continental EC DWS tires (3 older and 3 newer "06" versions)... with the 06 seemingly going even less than the previous version. I put the first set on with 12k miles on my Fit, and took the last one off just the other week at about 162k miles. But as I've said, people drive differently... with the way I drive, well, here's a hint: I have scuff marks going up the sidewalls after a few turns... >.>

Oh, they weren't completely bald when I replaced them, but close to legally "worn out." The thing was, I kept getting punctures on the tires around the time it was close enough to warrant replacing anyway. =.=

At the car's recommended 33 psi, these tires are SOFT, too soft for spirited driving... as you'll feel a little jiggly doing quick in/out turns... and not the good kind of jiggly. You can feel something similar at high speed on the highway. At the 38 psi that I normally run, the tires feel a more secure... but it still flexes under hard turns, hence I put a lot of scuff marks up the sidewalls.

I no longer run 205/50/16 tires, but 205/45/17 due to needing bigger wheels, etc.

 

love them. I’ve run these tires on my car for the past decade or so.

 

my 18 fit has rim size of 6 inch in width. i saw that with that width, optimum tire size is between 185 to 195....

i dunno if i run 205, it would be a problem?

 

Should be fine, according to specs, the rim width range is 5.5-7.5

I run the same size but General Altimax RT43 and haven't had a problem in 40k+ miles.

in terms of ratio, i see that you are using 50. have u thought abt 30s or 40s ?

 

No because that would be silly... Tell me why you would want to use those aspect ratios and the consequences of that choice.

I put a set on about 5 months ago and am 100% happy with them. I live in Florida and high speed driving in the rain was the main reason I went with them. Besides looking great and being quiet resistance to hydroplaning in heavy rain is the main reason I stepped up. I had a set on a 2006 Miata that transformed my driving experience..The fit on stock EX rims is perfect! My tire guy recommended 40 PSI and so far I've not tried any other pressure. They really feel secure at 70 to 80 mph on I-75 with standing water and hard rain. I don't track or race so I can't speak to handling at the edge but when the wife is not riding I'll hit the on and off ramps hard and again feel secure...Great tire!

It was $540.00 out the door..and worth it. I had first wanted a set right after buying the Fit new because of the set on my Miata but money was tight. Fifty three thousand miles later the stockers still had some tread but my wife drove on a low tire and we were on the side of the road. I can't say enough how much better they are than the worn stockers. They just give a feeling of confidence driving. I typically drive in hard rain and even slight hydroplaning scares me. A plus is the slightly wider looks better and protects the rim from rash. Continental has rebates but I couldn't wait till then. I never see snow but it's a fair all season tire.

 

Mine were $459.96 from Tire Rack.com. Still waiting on that $70 rebate prepaid card in the mail.
