Tire pressure when carrying weight??
Tire pressure when carrying weight??
I am making a 200-mile trip tomorrow morning in my 2015 Honda Fit and carrying about 700 lb counting my own weight. Should I increase the PSI in my tires? If so what would you recommend?
I think this is the best answer. But there’s not really any issue keeping the tires at normal pressure for just one or two trips
Actually, 700 pounds is a lot. The maximum load is 850. If my hatch area does not have a lot of weight I will make the rear tires a pound or 2 less than the front. With a lot of weight, I'll make them the same. The spec for 2015 listed in my owners manual is 33 front 33 rear but I with a light load I fill to 35 front 34 rear. When I check the pressure after 2 months it will be down about 3 pounds in each tire. So 32 front 31 rear, or even less. So the average pressure over 2 months will be close to the recommendation. Always check when the tires are cool. Tires facing the sun will get very warm, and gain about 2 psi, so check in the morning, If Ifill the tires in the morning when it is 70 degrees F outside, they will lose about 2 pounds if the temperature drops to about 20 degrees F. They will gain 2 pounds when they feel warm, on a long road trip.
