Difference between Honda Genuine Wheel Locks and aftermarket?
Difference between Honda Genuine Wheel Locks and aftermarket?
I am looking at a set of McGard at my local Canadian Tire:

What other recommendations of wheel locks do you have for the Sport's stock rims?
I prefer something that is affordable - $50 or less.
Thanks.

From what I've read I too realize McGard make the OEM ones for Honda but I just wasn't sure if they were absolutlely identical other than the packaging. I've read some reviews mentioning the nuts actually crack and would be difficult to remove in certain cases.
I have used McGard products for at least 20 years on 4 vehicles. Never a problem. The main worry for any brand of wheel lock is over-aggressive tire service shop personnel allowing the impact wrench to let the key jump out of the tracks on the face of the lock while removing the locks, lug nuts and wheels. Good tire shops manually remove the wheels without using impact wrenches, and that removes the danger to the locks. Good ones also never use impact wrenches to re-attach the lug nuts/locks. They manually use accurate torque wrenches. This has become common practice as alloy wheels have replaced stamped steel-with-cheap-hub caps on most modern cas.

When you buy a set of wheel locks, you get one key with the set. You also get a registration card to mail to McGard for your warranty and so that you can order a replacement key if you lose yours. When I sent in my registration, I also ordered an extra key which I store with my tools at home. This is my insurance policy in case a dealer or tire shop loses my key during service or repair.
Locks are overrated.....It will only deter the amateur thief, as will a car alarm. Any real thief will either bring lock removers or tow your car, then strip it and leave it with the locks. Locks can be a pain if they get corroded on or in fact the key breaks........Just my .02
