I know I know, this sounds like a totally bad idea... but hear me out.

I've always wanted the HFP wheels.. and I currently have 15" RPF1s.

I love my wheels, but I bought them for the lightweight aspect of them. The only problem is that now that I am turbo'd I find that I don't have any traction in 1st or 2nd gear... this could be due to the wheel weight and 195 tire width..

Now if I go with HFP wheels, they will be heavier yes, but I can also go up to a 205 width tire. The weight could be beneficial as I may be able to actually put the power down to the road as I won't be spinning through all the gears...

Anyone got any pics of a lowered SSM fit with HFP wheels?

 

Lol! You don't have traction because of your RPF1s? Ever think of getting sticker tires? The problem lies with your tires, not your wheels buddy.

 

Yes its tires not the weight of the wheels. Try sticker tires and see how that works

Ya perhaps that is the best solution.... I could do with some better tires and keep my RPF1s.. i just like the look of the HFP wheels and that they're 16"... bigger wheels do look better IMO..

Why not get some 205's for the RPF1's? They should fit.

That was my thoughts before I was presented with the offer for HFP wheels...

I'm not sure if 205s will work without them rubbing a fair amount... I rub quite a bit with the 195s when I corner hard, but having the 205/50 vs the 195/55 may be the solution.

 

What brand of tire are you running? Any suggestions on a good summer tire that still has decent tread wear?

My 195/55s right now are General Exclaim UHPs... I was thinking maybe Yokohama S.Drive in a 205/50... the treadwear on the Yoks is 300. My generals were 380.

I really want Parada Spec-2s but I can't find the size...

 

Have you tried the Dunlop Star Specs. It has a ton more traction then my 205/45/16 BS Re 01rs. Other tires I was looking at are the Azenis 205/50/15 which a civic was running at test tune this past week and he wanted to trade for the 195/55/15 Dunlops. Best yet the Dunlops are only 18 lbs.

 

I just got the cheapest 205s when i bought my rpf1s. I was looking at some falkens or toyos but I didnt have the cash.

 

are your RPF1s +41 or +35mm? And are you lowered? if so what drop/kit?

I'm on the J's Racing/Showa kit and its only about a 1.0" drop and I have the +41mm RPF1s.

Do you rub at all?

 

im on cusco coilovers/rpf1 15's +41/ 205/50/15 shitty tires and im lowered quite a bit not sure how much. I rub a tad bit in the front on hard turns with bumps ive check the fender and i havent seen any serious rub marks. If you're only dropped about 1" youll be fine... I scrap the lip more than i rub.

 

Ya i hear ya on the lip rub issue... I was dropped on Tein S-techs before and it was closer to a 2" drop and i chewed up my lip pretty bad.

Any thoughts on the Falken Azenis RT-615 in a 205/50?

 

forget about the Falcon 615s, they suck, spend a few extra dollars for Dunlop Z1 stars, those thing grips. I got the Yokohama S.drive, man, how i regret not getting the Z1 stars, with a few extra dollars, they are not even on the same level.

 

They don't make the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec tire in a 205/50R15. They only have it in a 195/55R15.

Is this tire so much better that one can say a 195/55 Dunlop Z1 Star Spec can out peform a 205/50 Falken Azenis RT-615

 

those are the ones I was going to get.. they dont do too well in wet conditions though lol. Its hard to find non biased tire reviews.

 

Agreed... it is hard to find a good outright honest comparison sometimes.

Its a tough call for me.. but I think a 205 Azenis RT-615 will give me more grip than a 195 Dunlop Star Spec. Both have the same treadwear rating, and both are roughly $90/tire.

I'm going stir crazy right now googling like a mad man trying to do a comparison on the 2.

I'm not an auto-x guy, and I only drive hard on the street once in a while.. i need the grip to keep my tires from spinning now that i'm boosted so in my thoughts a 205 will out do a 195 95% of the time...
