Any Issues Using Stock Tires on New (Wider) Rims?
I need some expert input as I’ve never purchased rims for any of my vehicles before and want to make sure I get this right.
So, I just ordered new rims for my 09 SSM Fit Sport, but don't necessarily need new tires. Or do I? The plan is to swap the OEM tires and the TPMS sensors from the stock rims to the new ones (and I already have a tentative buyer for the stock rims). Since the stock rims are 6" wide, and the new ones are 7" wide, I’m not sure exactly how the stock tires will fit (and look) on the new rims. Note: not worried about clearance issues at this point.
The new rims are:
Enkei RPF1 Type ii (Gunmetal color)
16" x 7"
+45 offset
Is it possible there will be a gap on the outside edge of the rim between the rim and the tire, since I'm using the stock tire on a 1" wider rim?
Just curious, because on the stock rim, the stock tire looks pretty flush (meaning that when looking at the tire/wheel from the front of the car for example [as opposed to perpendicular to the tire/wheel], the sidewall of the tire is fairly close in alignment to the outside of the rim).
I know that at 7" the new rim should be 177.8mm wide, and the stock tire is 185mm wide (at its widest point?), but what about where the tire actually meets the rim, which should be somewhat less than 185mm wide?
Again, just looking for some guidance from those who know. Thanks,
Smitty

Putting 16x7/45 whels mounted with the stock 185/55x16 tires will be excellent and probably yield better performance. You likely will need another 5 psi tire pressure to have the tread 'flatten' out better because the wider rim tends to 'fold' the tire tread concave. They neeed to slightly convex.
