Hello All,

Just joined the forum and wanted your opinion on winter tires.
Went to my Honda dealership and the only winter tire options they have for my 2007 Fit LX are:

Michelin X Ice
Toyo GO2

Any recommendations on which tire to choose (prices are similar and so looking for perfomance recommendations?

You cannot go wrong with the TOYO OBSERVE studless. I have had them on several cars of all sizes. Great grip, quiet for a snow tires, smooth non-squirm ride and you will get several winters on then if you dont drive on warm day dry pavements. Bizzacks are also pretty good but more squirmy as they wear down

 

Skip the dealership... more likely to pay more there too. You should look around like in tire rack or what not. And read some reviews...

I'm going for Nokian WR G2s this winter. Supposedly they're "year-round" so we'll see if the tread disappears in the summer. The other reason is that there's no other good all-season for the 15" size, and I like keeping my TPMS.

A friend has the original WR tires on his civic and he got about 30k of year round driving out of them with his last set. Their snow performance is a lot better than any all season I've been on. Actually I was of the opinion they were better on ice than my civic's AS tires on water, but mine didn't exactly like water.

Is toronto a snowbelt? Over here (straight west of you a couple hundred miles) Lake Michigan likes to pummel us with lake effect like it's going out of style.

 

I commute every 6 days between Calgary and Fort Mcmurray. Winter has finally hit both spots. Needed tires in a hurry and ended up getting the "Walmart specials". Nexen 231's in 175/65r/14 size. Coming back down from fort mac on thurs. (oct 15}morning on a stretch of black ice watched the ford f150 4x4 in front of me hit the ditch hard + 2 tractor trailers into ditch. I was ok. They are good for snow and ok in ice. But if cost is a factor for you, they are waayy better than driving on thoses crappy tires that came with the car in winter. My co worker who commutes between Edmonton and Fort Mac uses the michelin x-ice 2 and they are great for braking on ice/snow and good for getting going in the slippery stuff. Toyo has an interesting 4 season tire thats new called the extenza and is highly rated in the snow so that might be an interesting way to go. Found them on 1010tires sight. Stay safe out there!

 

I just purchased a set of Continental WinterextremeContacts from tirerack.com based a a 3-way test they had there. The test is against the X-Ices you listed and Bridgestone Blizzaks. I havent put them on the car yet but I probably will in the week or so.

I just picked up a set of General Altimax Arctic for my 2007 sport from Tirerack. They are 175/65/14 with 14" steelies and I got them for $459 including shipping.
I thought they might look too thin, but they're alright. The ride is great, much better rolling and g-force sport. I'm still waiting for the snow, anyday now. I don't think you can beat this price for the quality. imo.

 

Hi, newbie here! Just got my Fit in September and am loving it.

And today the first snowstorm hits and I have no snow tires. Ha!

So, when I bought the car and was asking about snow tires the salesman basically said that they had to be gotten through the dealer because of [insert technical language that i didn't pay attention to here]. But y'all are saying that's bull and I just go to my local Tire Warehouse and get them to put snowtires on these rims?

 

Absolutely. Your 'salesman' has a PhD in BS. i redommend 175/65x15's for 09's and 175/65x14's for 08's. Pick your brand based on your wallet and TireRack evaluations.
