Eagle GT's or Ecsta ASX's in Snow???

Well at 26000 miles, these dunlops are finished. So I am looking for some new tires. Right now I am leaning towards eagle GT's but I'm curious if anyone has used these in snow.

In my neck of the woods, we usually get no more 6-8 inches at a time, but a foot is easily possible.

IMO the dunlops were adequate in snow (if you know how to drive in snow), only once in 3 years was i snowed in, and that was with 14 fresh inches on the ground.

I was just wondering if anybody had any opinion on the GT's or possibly the Kumho Ecsta Asx's in snow?

I would also like to hear how these tires hold up in hot, dry weather.

Also if you have any other recommendations, feel free to let me know (but please, I know about snow tires, if I wanted them, I would buy them. Snow tires are not what I want).

Thanks guys!

I just bought some eagle gt's, and they are great. They are wider then the orignal dunlops, you can feel the extra grip with these. They felt a little heavy the first time i drove with them, but its nice. We don't have snow here in so cal, but imo, eagle gt's are great

Thanks ziaman for your input.

Yeah I wish I went darker on my tint, but all of my windows are illegal as it is and I didn't want to push it. But my roommate drives a white Pontiac g6 gt and has 15% all around, never been pulled over in 2 years.

I am planning on getting a new car within a year and will definitely go darker, at least 20% all around or darker.

lol. My eagle gt arrived on friday and got them installed yesterday at honda for $68. Purchased them on tirerack for $77each and w/ shipping $353 to my door. Goodyear is also running a deal with a $20 mail-in rebate, which Im doing tomorrow, asap. I got them for my stock wheels. 195/55/15.

They are by far better than stock. Better all around. I already notice how much more beefier they are than stock. Tread design looks more attractive than stock dunlops and the kuhmos. Tread-wear is higher than kuhmos, so that is a plus for me. I live in Florida, no snow, so it rides real well in these so-so heat because its getting chilly. But as far as performance, both are really good for Ultra High Performance All-Season.

To tell you the truth, I was stuck on these two choices last week, and when it came down to picking one, since they perform the same, it was due to tread-life, nice tread patterns and the mail-in rebate haha. Hope this helps out your decision.

My Eagle GT's worked well in Colorado snow last year, and I expect the same this year when I head up there for the holiday's.

PS. Yes I know I can take the SUV to Colorado and 4x4 all over the place. but the reality is, that sucker guzzles gas so I just use it for camping or when I have to bring a lot of stuff to and fro. Hence the all weather tires on my California based Fit.

Thanks for the input guys. I ordered Eagle GT's from my local tire shop this afternoon, and got them to price match Tire Rack's Price! I get them installed on Wednesday!

Got them installed this morning! And it rained ALL night last night, almost 2 inches, and they definitely feel good on wet pavement. Nice and solid through turns, never felt like they were going to give.

They look pretty beefy compared the dunlops, but look really nice. They would look really good with a new set of wheels!

I took it on a test drive the minute I left the tire shop, got it up to 85 on the interstate. I read some reviews that said they felt numb in straight line driving, but I cant really feel a difference.

The only big difference is that bumps seem a bit more pronounced at slow speeds (less than 20 or so).

But I'm liking them so far!

Thats really great to hear that you chose the right tire. Make sure that you don't drive too hard on them. They have a sort of break in period due to the tires having a shiny layer on it when buying them new. So drive with care until that layer is off. Just a precaution, thats all. Drive safe.

I have had the Kumho ASX's for a little over a year now and I can't find any fault in them. Plenty of grip, much better than stock. I do love dunlops though.

For real?

I had Kumho ASX's in 235/40/18...I found:
-HUGE amounts of road noise
-Poor in the rain
-Not enough grip for how loud/stiff they are

and I had them in 205/50/15.....I came to the same conclusions

After my first ASX's I got a set of Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons.....OMG the difference that I felt

I went from low-mild grip to near summer tire levels of grip
-World's quieter
-Much more comfortable
-Far superior in the rain
-AND better MPG's
