After getting the email in October and ordering it from the local store a couple weeks later, I finally received my fit kit for the US market Thule Rack.

I was really close to selling my old rack and ordering the european market rack everyone was getting for a while. I'm glad I held off!

The rack fits well and looks great on the car. No more muddy mountain bikes in the back of my car!!!!

Details too! How much did it run you? Which model did you get? I couldn't even find that one was supposed to work. Now you've got me excited.

 

The rack is not new. I had this rack on the WRX I sold before getting this car. It has the standard 400 Aero Feet, 48" cross bars and whatever bike mounts I have.

A lot of people just bought the racks from the UK and I was close do just selling mine and doing the same thing. Thule came through with the fit kit for the Honda fit just in time......spending $50 for the kit was a lot better than going through the hassle of selling my US market rack and spending $275 for the UK market rack.

Actually, that poor car never gets washed!

 

i dont really like the roof top racks, in my opinion, for the money you could buy a class 1 hitch ($90) and a hitch mounted bike rack( another $90). you wouldnt have all the aero drag and you wouldnt have to physically lift your bike onto the roof( probably a 2 person job to do it right) just my opinion. 1-1/4" Bike Racks and Carriers Trailer hitch bike rack and trailer hitches - etrailer.com

Now, for the rest of the day I will browse all of the different topics on this site and make it a point to go into any of them that I actually have no interest in or any that I don't agree with or any that display products that I don't like in order to let everyone know that I have no interest in, I don't agree with, or just plain don't like whatever it is that topic is about.

 

I have been looking for a roof rack and appreciate the first post about the availability of the Thule product. I already have a Class II hitch and a T-Bar ladder rack that mounts on the hitch. I need the rack for long items like a kayak and various lumber itmes from Home depot that won't fit inside. I sold my Ford F-150 Super Cab to get my Fit and still need some utility use from the new vehicle.

hitch racks are a good idea, if you are in a larger vehicle, but they definitely have an effect on the control of a smaller car, especially when you add more than two bikes. i had a thule hitch rack on a 95 celica and got rid of it after a road trip to florida.....3 bmx bikes+ appalacian mountain roads+ hitch rack= BAD IDEA! scared the hell out of me going over 75mph. But then again thats a 2dr car and not a honda fit!

 

i'm looking for a thule rack for my fit too. Maybe i'll get it couple months later, before my summer camp.

 

Very cool! It looks like it doesn't cause the door gaskets to bend out too much, either. I'll have to buy one to put our Yakima box on before it's camping season!

 

Hi there. I'm planning on buying this system for my Fit also. Can you tell me please...is this the medium fairing that is recommended? Or did you go a size up?

Is this picture of the Thule recommended componenets? Fit Kit 2180; 400XT system with LB50 bars? Did you get the "stand up" bike attachment or the one where you tak off your front wheel?

 

Looks good. I just got a black sport MT, also, and I'm in need of a roof rack. Putting a hitch on such a tiny car seems so sketchy to me, so I'm going with the roof option. 2ppl to lift a bike up there is ridiculous. One person can do it easy enough, and if you can't, there are assistance devices you can buy to help.

 

And if you can't lift the bike up there by yourself, you probably shouldn't be riding!

BTW, a trailer hitch is great "body armor" against parking lot dings and paint damage to your bumper.
