Loctite Question

What is the least powerful Loctite product? Is it Loctite 242? I need something very mild for a non-automotive application.

Also, what is Permatex Threadlocker Blue Medium Strength? Same as Loctite 242?

Thanks.

Blue is the lesser of the strengths. It is the most common used.

Red is BAD!!! It has to be heated up in order to loosen the hardware. Very few situations call for Red Loctite.

Thanks.

The Loctite 242 is "Blue." Strangely, it comes in a red bottle.

Loctite 242 is considered Medium strength. That's why I put this question out there. Is there a Loctite product that is below "Medium" strength?

How about the Permatex? Any good?

Haha. Yeah That was a bad idea by Loctite, the 242 (Medium) should be in a Blue bottle. Loctite only makes Blue 242 and Red 271 thread lock both are in red bottles, that's it.

Permatex is a cheaper brand, I suggest sticking with Loctite.

It also depends on what kind of hardware you are using and what material it is going into. You would want a different compound for say (stainless fastener into steal or say zinc plated 8.8 into aluminum different compound would be needed) Search the website of the company you choose to use and they should have a recommendation on what to use.

^^Thanks.

I've never seen the Purple (Low Strength), but I'll look for it.
