My Sunshine (EX 2016) got rear ended and written off. *sad*
I am back again after 2016. I bought her after reading up on the whole forum. *Bye bye, my Sunshine* Can you please kindly help me again?
I would like to buy a Fit 2018 or 19 but it is not available in my area (Windsor, ON). Do you guys have any suggestions? Any make comparable/ or a bit better (HR-V, Toyota, ...). You can tell I have absolutely no idea about cars. I prefer a Fit's size or something that is not too big.
Thank you so much =)).

Reason: They can't find me a Fit.
Sorry to hear and see this. Hope you are okay. That is part of the reason that I left Toronto because of the shitty drivers there.
If my Fit was totalled then my short list would be an HR-V or Ridgeline. Both have the rear seat option of folding upright like the Fit. I really don't use the folding flat option that much. The HR-V is a bit bigger (duh) than the GK and also comes in AWD version.
My other option might also be the Toyota CH-R. Again a slightly bigger ride than the Fit.
There are so many threads on this and so many opinions, so it's ultimately up to you.
Test drive a bunch of different cars that look interesting, and figure out what works best for you. I'd be looking at the Civic hatch too, even though it's a big larger than I want.
Maybe a Mazda? They seem to be the best Japanese brand as far as involving the driver in the actual driving experience. Toyota makes a solid product, but the older ones I've driven always feel kind of dead or insulated.
Very sorry to read of Sunshine's ruin. There are a number of us here who are VW fans. As a suggestion, the Golf is a practical hatchback with a really nice interior and is a lot of fun to drive. Even the base line Golf's 1.4L Turbo produces 147 HP and 184 LB/Ft of torque.
If not another Fit a Golf is a good option. Mazda has some great looking stuff but they sacrifice room for style so not as practical I think. At least the Mazda 3 we had.
Dang that looks like a pretty rough rear end accident. Hope you're okay!
As for car suggestions, obviously the Fit 2018-2019 is an easy replacement. I only just recently got a 2018 Fit Sport and I've been quite happy with it. When I was looking, I cross-shopped a Civic Hatchback, Mazda3 Hatch, Impreza Hatch, and a Golf. Fit won out on price and usable space, but the other ones have their advantages too (4WD, stronger engine, etc.)
Thank you so much for the list, Iggy95. I will check them out next. I want a Fit but they cannot find one in Winsor, Ontario area. I'm crushed. I tried Soul, Rio, Elantra GT so far but a Civic HB LX is only a few thousand more. A Civic HB LX is better, right? Or I should save some $ and go with one of those?
Well, quit saying you have no idea what you are doing, and take a deep breath.
What you are doing, is researching, investigating, and hopefully obtaining your next vehicle. Seems like you are committed to staying with the hatch back configuration, and you've at least read about or considered most commonly available models across manufacturers. That's good.
IMO, the good thing is that if you are looking at Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Subaru, I think they all offer good products in this genre. So it really comes down to which one you like the best. That only you can determine, and there is no real "right or wrong" answer. Having options, let's you look for potentially the best deal, but the important thing is getting something you like.
There isn't one you've mentioned that I would say was a mistake.
Don't know what your urgency or timeline is, but actually test driving, sitting in these vehicles obviously gives you the best hands on feel and ability to observe what you are getting.
NOW...not to muddy the waters that are clearing, but have you considered venturing outside the hatch back world?
I actually like the Toyota Corolla sedan right now. Well built, well vetted vehicle, that I think is a good deal right now.
Anyway, I would say none of your candidates are bad. So it really comes down to you figuring out what budget, deal, and vehicle you want. Narrow it down, make a choice, and then learn as much about that singular choice as possible. With the internet, and websites, you should be able to know just about everything in regards to trim levels, options and price.
Philosophically and through experience, I would also say, I've never bought or owned a vehicle that I thought was "perfect". They all have various degrees of drawbacks and strengths.
There is a "What you don't like about your Fit" thread on this very site. And it's NOT a perfect vehicle.
No choice I think you can make or will make will return you a "perfect" vehicle. The best you can do, is find the make, model, and price, that you feel most comfortable with and like the most.
I think you know me better than I do myself. Yes, I just realized I want a hatchback.
LOL. Yes, but thank you for muddying. I want to know/ try all my options. I will try a Corolla sedan tmrw. Thx for reminding me about "no perfection" so I can move on from a Fit.
I do appreciate your help/ input a lot. Enjoy your Sunday =))
… Philosophically and through experience, I would also say, I've never bought or owned a vehicle that I thought was "perfect". They all have various degrees of drawbacks and strengths ...
That's such a valid point fitchet and it's something that I must remind myself of. Being a gearhead, my "deep dive" research finds known mechanical flaws and/or frustrating omissions of features in every vehicle I look at. I get tied in knots seeking a perfect vehicle, which as you wrote, doesn't exist. Yep, deep breaths are needed.
Yes, Alco RS-1. Such a simple reminder that helps me a lot. Perfect? Someone once said that your significant other has to put up with you too; not just the other way round. It enlightened me at that cloudy emotional moment.
Just like now, I looked around so much. But I still can't take my eyes off Honda's cargo space. A Fit is not available. So a civic HB LX 2019. I'm trying not to worry about the oil dilution problem I read. *sigh*
Don't know it I'm allowed to say all the off topic personal stuff. Pls remove this if not, Mod. Thank you.
I am kinda lost coz my bf and I just broke up. He wants kids and I don't. Then the accident. I don't have a family or a close friend. I know what is wrong with me =))! I am grateful for everyone's help here.
From what I've read about the Civic Hatchback 2019, they actually are providing a fix for the oil dilution issue from the factory. So it should not be an issue for the latest models. 2016-2018 1.5 turbos were the ones that got extended warranties and a fix to make the engine warm up faster.
Thank you for everything, Iggy95. I mean it. Isn't it mechanical? Can you just fix it with a software by heating it up faster? I just hate it when I read about hos the dealer and Honda tossing you back and forth. I guess, every company does that.
So much to read. a Golf, Mazda 3 Hatchback, Fiat 500L vs Prius next. What do you think of an HRV? Hope I end up with sth small like a Fit.
I'm not mechanically inclined so tbh I'm not sure. It appears to be a mechanical issue that was supposedly fixed with a software update (to make the engine warm up faster). Regardless, this is probably something to really consider since you live in Canada and will probably need to drive it in cold weather (which is when a lot of the issues occur).
First of all, I just wanna thank everyone here for all your help. You guys are the coolest =)). I think I will end up buying a Civic HB LX. So I can give away:
- Husky Liners Weatherbeater Floor Liners - BLACK-WeatherBeater Front & 2nd Seat Floor Liners (Footwell Coverage). My fit is 2016 but I think it fits 2014-2019. Can anyone confirm?
- OEM cargo cover
- OEM mats
I live in Windsor, ON. Anyone in the area nearby (like Detroit) wanna pick them up? I think the shipping cost would be too much unless you wanna pay.
