Has anyone found different info on the stats on the road safety of the Fit?
I found this but don't know if this is a reliable chart. Anyone have any different info?? Thanks.
The problem with the chart is that it tells us nothing about the age of the cars being compared. Over the last few years Honda has made improvements to the structure and rigidity of the Fit. It would be more relevant to see this information comparing cars of the same more recent year rather than what appears to be a random unknown collection of car data. That being said, considering all the big heavy SUVs on the road now, smaller cars are indeed more likely to have a higher fatality rate as the chart indicates. No surprise there..
As stated in previous reply, not enough information presented. Honestly, "I aint skurred". Watching the crash test videos leaves me confident I'd fare better in a crash in the fit than any of my previous cars. The GK's cabin is like a tank:
If you look at the list it's full of performance cars or inexpensive cars that younger more inexperienced drivers would own. Says nothing because more stats aren't attached.
Thanks for the info. And, even though I know how much car safety has improved through the years, watching that last video of the 59 Belair was still a surprise. We used to say that these old cars were built like a tank but lots of metal and weight mean nothing for passenger safety. Interesting and what a shame to destroy that old "tank". :-)

This. It says nothing about the circumstances of the crash. Need more data to draw any conclusions.
Thanks for posting those videos. I've never seen the one from underneath so that was cool to watch. Also the one with the interior with the car seats makes me feel better when I have the kiddos in there with me.
Please send me the rear spoiler on the white car, COD. lol

For the sake of science i was happy to see the test. For the sake of cars and coffee, i cried a little. Cars of the 50s are awesome (especially when resto-modded).

[Chuckles abou COD] .. it looks like the parts go to wrecking yards... This one has a lookup if it's near you Used Auto Parts Market
It kept me safe. Might be a different story if a truck or SUV hit me. Fit gets a solid pass in my book lol.
Wow, glad you were okay after that hit! Can you please give specifics, i.e., how fast you were going, if you rear-ended a car, etc. Seems like it's a head-on hit?
It was a little after 1am and I was on my way home from work. Was on a 4 lane highway (rural area no street lights) and was trying to make a left onto another road. I waited for my light to turn green and proceeded through the intersection. Out of nowhere a Mercedes Benz plows into me sending me into a 360 across the intersection. He didn't have his lights on and it was a dark intersection. I was at about 45 degrees halfway through the intersection when he hit me. Speed limit on the road is 55 and that's about what the cop estimated his speed to be. I grabbed the ceiling/steering wheel and yelled some expletives as the car spun. Good thing I got that air bag recall taken care of lol. Luckily a cop happened to be coming down the highway when it happened. The guy that hit me pretended to be a bystander that was walking by and said he saw the accident and the other person got out of the other car and ran. Turns out he was lying and was driving on a suspended license from a DUI he got a year prior. He blew a .207 at the scene!! I didn't know until the next day when the cop called me that the "witness" who helped me get out of the car was the one who hit me. I was bruised up but other then that fine. Another example of wearing your seat belt as I am sure if I wasn't it would have been a different story.
The intersection has street lights now and I hope the judge threw the book at the driver. It was his girlfriends car (with T tags) so why she let him drive it IDK. I'm just glad my kids were not in the car and it was the passenger side.
Daylight pics.
The Merc
TL;DR - I think I had just shifted into 2nd gear or was about too and he hit me at a 45 doing 50+mph.

Wow! Very glad you got out of all this with only some minor bruises! This is quite a testament to the safety of the Fit. To be hit nearly head-on by a large car going that speed and to have the cabin look so "livable" is really something. Thank you for posting the pics and passing on your story. Also, so very glad your family wasn't in the car at the time too!. Yeah, I hope they threw the book at that P.O.S.
Yeah- that's an impressive bit of wreckage, even more impressive the damage it did to the merc. Glad you got out ok.
on a lighter note, lol swooping in like a vulture: Do you still have those factory sport rims? I'd be happy to help you free up some space in your garage/attic if you do.

Lol, this happened a year ago so I no longer have access to the car. It was only at the local tow truck company for a few days before it got sent to Co-Parts. I grabbed a few things that I could. I wanted to pull the Nav out but it cracked on impact. I'm glad I didn't have my summer wheels on the car as they are a kinda rare set of special edition Civic wheels.

You're welcome. I thought the little Fit did great. I had a GE and the newer ones are suppose to be safer.

Wow! First, I’m very happy that you are ok! That Honda Fit really really did it’s job in protecting you very well. I heard the 09-13 have a new ACE structure to reinforce it better. I awhile back I posted a post just about this... about worries about safety in the Honda Fit and I saw the same Chart in this post. And it REALLY worried me. My worries are mainly, I have a family with 1 child. For the time being that may change in the future with with me being alone for awhile. I have a CRV currently. Seeing it from your experience I have to say. From the outside it looks scary! But from the inside it tells a different story it seems like no plastic in the dashboard flew off. It seems very well protected. I’ve heard when people gotten into an accident in the Honda Fit, that they only walk away with bruises. Or a scratch. Which is amazing. It’s putting a bit more confidence in the Honda Fit again for me. But I had to log in and ask you personally,
After this horrific experience, would you recommend the Honda Fit as a car for a very small family? 2 adults and 1 child. Or do you think the CRV is better suited? All things equal. Would the Honda Fit protect my family just as good as the CRV, or is it a risk.
(I’m sorry you went through this. I personally never been in an accident, but can only imagine the damage that it may do with all of those very high forces.. it’s what frightened me to even drive before I was getting my license. Lol.) My father used to tell me “if you’re scared of getting into an accident then you will get into one from the fear of driving and you’ll never get your license that way...” and he was right. Now I know the majority of cars are built way better than the past ones, especially after that video of both chevy’s. And year by year the institute for highway safety makes cars more and more safer. On top of that the Honda sensing systems. and all that even further the safety.

Thank you. That was good advice from your father.
According to IIHS data the CRV is safer then a Fit the same year (I compared 09 to 09). Not sure what year CRV you are referring too. SUV’s are more likely to roll over but they are bigger so they provide better protection from that stand point. I wouldn’t hesitate to use the Fit for 2 adults and a child. I think the Fit can be safer in the sense that you are able to maneuver around hazards and avoid accidents. A panic stop and swerve in a Fit will go a lot better then in a Pilot. The CRV is still a smaller SUV so it would handle those situations better.

Literally, all the info I've seen states that the "bigger" the car, the safer you are. I would, hands down, go with that if family safety was the main concern.

Yes a larger vehicle is always safer. The only advantage a smaller vehicle has is the possibility to avoid incidents. With everyone driving SUV's and trucks the larger you are the better.

Im referring to the 06 CRV. Between a 06 CRV and 2009-2013 FIT which do you think would fare better? And yes that also scares me about the CRV in fact just earlier this month me and my partner had to go for a small long distance trip over 30 minutes. We had to go to a very tight ramp entering the highway. And my CRV... I’ll admit I did take it a “little bit” too quick but slowed downed through it it was burning some rubber. You could hear the wheels screeching. It sounded like we were in the movie fast and furious but in a CRV LOL 😂 anyways my partner was screaming “stoppp slow down we are doing to crash....” and I told her “it’s ok I have it under control besides this car is equipped with VSC so if it didn’t have that feature then yea the car would slip more” even with VSC the car did have body roll feeling. I doubt this is evident in the Honda Fit isn’t it?
In the Honda Fit I bet the steering in right corners like this is good and doesn’t feel like the car will tip over. And you make a solid point. I guess we can’t brake the laws of physics.. intertia and mass. Still I wish the Honda fits were built of like something even more powerful steel that we anyone wouldn’t be scared of accidents. As for maneuvering quicker like you said. Is also another valid point. And in the end like you Said the CRV would probably handle a cage like experience in an actual accident better. I still wish I could get myself a fit lol I love that subcompact. Sometimes I even feel that when I’m crowded towns or cities, a fit would be easier to park and drive around than the CRV because of its size.
So as for my conclusions on my dilemma. I can either keep The CRV and just accept the MPG (18-22MPG city and about 24-25comb and 30-32mpghw as you said should fare better with a family. If there is a crash (I hope there never isn’t one at all) I think for the most part I do feel safe.
Or go with a Honda Fit 2009-2013
the MPGs would make me more than happy. And as for an accident. Hope to God that the airbags deploy for all passengers inside. Or even Better, to avoid a crash at all my maneuvering quickly and quick reflexes on the fit.
Hearing your experience though. And your thoughts has me leaning more to staying what with I have currently. But boy oh boy I want a FIT so bad. I think that because of the FITS MPG that’s why it’s making me lean towards it. Now. If I could afford one. I have heard of the Honda HRV. This has pretty much what the fit has. In MPG, magic seats. But also what the CRV has! Higher ground clearance pretty good cabin safety features. Unfortunately I can’t afford the HRV since the most “budget friendly for me is from 2016... pretty much when it was released and even then they cost $10,000-$13,000 used. It’s the best of both worlds and even my partner loved it. She said “as long as it will protect our family” she said for now she just feels good in the CRV. And that whatever decisions I make. Could end up making me regret it in the end. The HRV would be affordable for us in another 10 years lol.
One thing I wish I knew, Is how the fit would fare against a head on oncoming SUV. Or... what’s more concerning to me for the back passengers, rear ended at high speed. If the fit could protect us in both instances with our child in it. Then we would feel just fine driving a fit for sure.

on second thought. I will get myself a fit. Honestly I can’t afford 48$ at the pump anymore so $20-30$ is not that bad at all on the fit. And besides I’ve been a safe driver for my first year of driving. I’m gonna go with what my dad said of not being afraid. I’m gonna get a fit to have fun for awhile and when it’s time to move on. I’ll get myself that HRV we only have 1 life in this world. And I think it’s better to live it than miss things like that. The fit brings me joy. I believe that because of the fits great handling it’ll help me become an even better driver overall! I always check traffic before all my drives and avoid really heavy congested traffic so I think that’s a very big vital help too to avoid accidents. And as for family. I will drive even more carefully and super defensively. But I’m sure there won’t be any problems. I can always resell the fit if it just didn’t meet my needs (highly doubt that) but I’ll definitely give it a try because it doesn’t hurt. Also I I’m a busy guy so I’m the one mostly taking drives (jobs) etc but from time to time my family and I do go out so I think just like the lotto. The odds in my favor? We would save lots of money in gas. That money can go to other stuff for our family. Etc
