Damn you guys!!
I was set on getting the auto, but youre making me second guess it. I love driving MT, and the mileage the auto's are getting is sucky. Im going to be buying a Fit in the next week. I guess the wifey can finish learning how to drive stick.

Nothing feels quite like a nicely matched heel to toe.

Total opposite situation up here. Dealers had all MTs but no AT's. Also, barely any cars available in the colour I wanted without having to pre-order plus the price can change when they actually came in as it takes 2 months.
I needed a car ASAP so I ended up buying the most base model DX-Auto (at least colour I wanted). We have 3 levels here. DX (has nothing), LX (has air con & power mirrors), Sport - everything.
I used to drive a '89 Civic-Hatchback and now I feel like I'm driving a little mini-van, hahahaha

concider what I say seriously

I am one of the few people on this site that has owned both the manual and the auto Fit. I say this. The auto is nice, nice, nice. Truthfully I didnt like shifting the manual. With the manual it is shift, shift, shit. You might think you are driving a 18 wheel tractor. I own a manual mazda RX7 and honestly in that car you can shift if you want to there is a very long spread in power band and shifting.... very nice. Did I say very nice

My statement to you about deciding to settle for an auto is if you drive mostly around town or city and you want good gas mileage do not buy a Honda Fit Auto transmision... dont do it.... If you want the facts and numbers send me a private messege and I will give you the figures.

Myself I wanted a manual which I had for 7000 miles however, it was totaled by my insurence company so I bought what was available, yes, an automatic. There that was easy

BigFit has a point about the gas milage, and also about the shifting, though I don't mind shifting at all, and you can always rev it up (it's a Honda, after all....). He's put up valuable data in other threads re: the gas milage of MT vs AT.

I haven't owned an AT, but I have driven both. Either choice is good based on what your own individual priorities are (me, I went for the MT....)

The MT ratios are quite close together as BigFit said, and it really could use a sixth gear for cruising, but the engine is so smooth you won't mid the extra revs on the MT up till at least 75 mph.
I originally thought 1st gear was too low (and it is for acceleration, with a relatively big jump between 1st and 2nd), but there is an advantage: If you have very slow but not stopped traffic, you can just crawl comfortably in 1st with the engine idling. I don't seem to have the shift/move/stop/repeat problem that BigFit had because of how low 1st gear is. Of course if you have to stop, that's another matter....

Just another data point for your consideration.

Vivid Blue or Black.
Im leaning MORE (90%) towards Vivid blue. I dont want to deal with the swirl marks and haze on black...

get the automatic, driving a stick in traffic is a pain in the ass. you would be lucky to get a sip of coffey between shifts.
and at re-sale time the automatic 90% of the time will get more money$$$$$. as far as the color vivid blue or blaze orange.

I purchased an AT and I'm not dissapointed. There wasn't any MT's available when I needed a car badly and I was lucky to even find an AT. I've never been an AT person. Almost all of my previous cars were MT, however I'm quite happy with my Fit in AT. The car isn't fast even if it were MT or AT so it doesn't really matter much to me. It's my daily driver and I use it for hauling a bunch of crap. I have other MT cars for racing.

I originally wanted Vivid Blue, but I'm happy with Milano Red. Storm Silver looks good. I'll never buy a black car again, but NHBP looks really good too.

You must have more colour choices in the States. For the most base model (we get 3 up here: DX, LX and Sport): they only offered blue, red or silver (probably not even storm silver). Of the three, I chose silver because I wanted to blend in with all the other cars up here :-)
BTW, my new FIT came with a windshield wiper on the driver's side that's all bent and broken like a finger that's broken in 3 places. How Bizarre. I only noticed because I'm short and all of a sudden it rained so I couldn't look out of 1/3 of the driver's view. Anybody else had that happen? Also, I had to jam my brakes on hard one day and I heard a sound that sounded like glass jars knocking together. Was that ABS? Curious.

The ABS is pretty loud on the Fit. I'm not sure I'd say that it sounds like glass jars, but it's somewhat loud.

Smile Auto or Stick ?

Driven Stick for the last 20 years : 2 civics and 1 Mazda Truck which I still have. Vowed never to buy an automatic car until that fateful day I saw the Silver Storm AT Sport at the dealer! Once I saw the Silver Fit I knew it was a keeper and that it would be pampered and cared for!! Paddles on the steering wheel , man thats cool !! Who cares about chirping tires and burnouts! This car is for cruising and turning heads!! The shiny Silver Storm paint really stands out at night! Btw didn't have to wait for my car, just walked into the dealer and 4 hours later the car was mine! Salesman sold me the automatic at the same price as the manual because they any M/t in inventory, sweeeet!!!

Alright so here's my story...

I got a Out the Door price quote from another dealer for $17,232. I walk into the dealer and we sit down and do the numbers... They came to me with price before tax, tags etc.. at about $16,800. I told him I wanted OTD price.. So he comes back with $17,742. I then hand him the email that i received with the lower deal. They matched it! .... AND they had the Vivid Blue SPort Auto in stock!!....

All in all. It took about 2 1/2 hrs.. A bit long for my taste. A LOT of waiting for finance.

I already ordered:
All-season floor mats
Mugen Style Visors
Blue gas, brake, dead pedal

I'll get the car tinted next weekend.
after that. Most likely wait till the double Din comes out and look into a nav/dvd touch screen.

The FIT is great! I love it!

Alright so I'm not the newest owner here anymore. Grats on your new purchase I am sure you will be very happy with. You might get a few strange glances here and there but it's all in fun. New car smell!
