How do you guys get such high mileage? I have almost 1000 miles on my Sport AT fit, and the best I've gotten was 25mpg, and that was about 80% highway. Usually I drive nearly 100% city and see about 23mpg. I've been accelerating very gently, and that has increase my efficiency, but i'm nowhere near 30, let alone close to 50!

lizardking you will get to 30 mpg in time..... I have an AT sport Fit and I am getting the same results as you. I now have 4500 miles and I have noticed that now I get closer to 30 mpg then before. the most commen city miles for my Fit is 28 mpg. My lowest is 22mpg yes I have a few 22 and 23 mpg on my list.
Who know perhaps we will both be getting 35 to 40mpg in time.... trust me.

Low gas mileage

hey have you guy heard of this product. Ethos Fuel Reformulator, Fuel Increaser and Performance Enhancer (click and watch video) apparently they test it, and proven that it can help you with gas mileage. if you know anything about this product, please do tell. i would definitely invest in this if it work.

Oh yeah, im getting 16mpg on my AT base fit. so im really jealous of all of you guy. here is my math

100% city+ granny driving (not passing 2.5rpm)+ good road condition+clear weather + No sudden stop or acceleration's+ cosco premium+ one piss off fit owner = 16mpg (convert to) dealer giving me the finger and laughing behind my back as i drove away.

I haven't even pass the 20 mark yet, and have 1000 mile on it.

I'm not saying that your lying? but how would all of those news channel saying that it work? I don't alway believe what i watch, but a lot of news people try to prove them wrong and in the end fail. man i'm desperate, if you said that there is a holy water that can give me better gas mileage, i probably believe it.

Short answer: they're journalists, not scientists or engineers. "Math is hard!" says Barbie.

The link I gave above has a section about Ethos' TV claims. The rest of that site, written by an automotive engineer, is also worth reading.

More links:

Easy:
  • Check/increase tire pressure.
  • Avoid carrying excess weight.
Harder:
  • Avoid bad driving conditions (every car gets 0mpg stopped).
  • Change driving style -- but not blindly. See the Scangauge thread (there are a few similar devices, but this is currently the cheapest).
Impractical for most people:
  • Aerodynamic mods (wheel skirts, undertray, mirror removal, etc.).
  • Avoid ethanol (man, there's gotta be a way to distill that out and sell it to bums).
  • Get a proper transmission

You are either driving harder than you think, or there may be something wrong. I have 15k on my Sport AT, and over the last 6978 miles, of all mixed types of driving, I am averaging 29.58 MPG ranging from 23.5 to 36.5... 16 MPG is not what this car should do when conservatively driven.

I agreee agree that something is wrong. You should at least be getting 20.5 mpg. If you said you got 19 I could believe that I would just think in my mind you are driving hard which I hate to think. The dealer told me to drive any way I like on the way home when I picked up my car ( odometer read 4 miles). That is what the manufacture says but It does not hurt to be a concervitive.

16 mpg must be an error or equipment problem

blue naruto you may be a new record holder.... for the all time low. I would not worry and or get it checked out. 16 is just not right. perhaps some one sucked the gas out to mow the lawn or to get to the gas station to buy more gas. yeah It is not a plausable explaination I agree.

What was your previous car, and what mileage did you get in it?

very first tank with my manual sport.
33.8 and a bunch of it was city (15%) 70-85 MPH (50%) the rest mixed.
Just one tank, no big deal and really not too much conclusive, but over time........

I do believe these guys who are getting into the 40+ MPG range!!

answering your questions

To answer some of your guys questions.

I do fill my tank all the way up, until the gas pump shut off automatically. I drive until the empty light turn on. i usually get under 200 mile each fill. I don't used the trip part due to confusion, so i just used a math equation with the mileage part to determine my mpg. here is one of my equation.

Example of my Data
3rd tank:

Costco/3.29pricepergallon/Premium/FullTank 8.9gal
Rpm X1000 :2-2.8
Trip per tank : 8-12
Weather :Clear / Fair
mile start & end : 190ml Start– 335ml End
City/Freeway : 90%city -10%freeway
Equation: 335ml – 190ml = 145ml/8.9gal
= 16.3mpg
1.6mpgFRW – 14.7CiTy

2nd tank:
regular shell
187ml – 30ml = 157ml/8.6gal
= 18.3mpg

Only my daily commute, i usually stop 4-6 one way at a stop light for at 8-14 second. There is not many fit owner here where i live. I've only seen 3 other fit around town (with a population of over 350000 people.)I usually drive 20mile one way. I went to the deal to reset the the ILP, i did not stay to see the dealer people perform it. but i left my car there for 3hrs and when i came back, they said they ran the test because i told them that i was having problem with my gas mileage.

alright then, if you guy have any more question plz feel free to ask. and thank u for all of your advice!

below 20mpg

my fit is a base A/T. I havent modify it in anyway, accept trying to save some gas by make the tire 3.8psi instead of 3.2psi (recommended). Other than that, i drive my fit like granny. 3 car passes me by at a stop/green light before i catch up to speed limit (35-40mph)

Auto shut off when filling gas tank. Gas tank fill discripency

Better is to take the total of many tanks, so that the error is small compared to the total. Odometer inaccuracy is also an issue, but it doesn't change from day to day, unless your tires are changed or dangerously soft.

The second part presumably refers to my post. Once the OBDII Scangauge is calibrated, it's accurate to the level I reported.
I did not include this detail but its funny to say that 90% of the fills I do are at the same pump. I only buy chevron gas and I am a repeat customer at the places I go. I do not use the same pump for the reasons you have mentioned rather I do it because it is funtional. Traffic flow and tank location do not give alot of options at the places I get gas. Also I mostly get gas in the evening when vapors or less and I always buy regular unleded.
So I ask any one out there how much of a difference is there in shut off points at the pumps? Does any one out there have practices that are different when doing pump checks and settings? Perhaps it is like a watch. there is mechanical and quarts time...... I dont know I am with out knowlege you could say.

You do mean 38psi, right?

Try not doing that; you may be spending too much of your time in the less efficient low gears. (I don't know how the AT decides to shift, but with the MT it's actually more efficient to accelerate hard if you shift quickly.)

Still, it's a bit of a puzzle that your mileage is so much worse than anyone else's. Something must be wrong.

I'm thinking about calling up honda and complaining about my mileage and see if they throw in something free for me, considering i pay so much for it.
