i noticed that too. i think they might have meant to say increased by 67%. increased by 167% would mean they more than doubled the structural rigidity right?

I bet the 167% increase in structural rigidity is right.

After all, the current Infiniti M is if I remember correctly from the article in Motor Trend, over 1000% more structrally rigid than the last one.

2009 Honda Fit

I'm surprised that some do not like the look of the 2009. I think the front end is MUCH better looking than the former model. I also love the fact they increased engine size and power. This is gonna be an awesome car. Can't wait!

We can all look at it this way......we all will have a limited edition body style. I can't remember the last time Honda only sold a brand new car for only 2 years in the US! Honda's car generation cycles if I am correct run 6 years. The current body style will have only been sold for 2 years! The new model looks like a FORD FOCUS from the back. Engine power improv sounds good but plenty potential with the 1.5 sohc. Alot of added luxurious features also means added WEIGHT!

Peace

There will not be a big price jump on the new Fit, as far as the JDM Fit is concerned, because of the very slow sales for cars in general in Japan. Honda would be committing suicide sales-wise if they raised the price of the comparable trim level by, say, US $1,000 (115,000 yen). Toyota in Japan would wipe them out by discounting their econoboxes way low.

Even for USDM, raising the price in that scale would put the higher-trim Fit in the price range of the Civic, which could cause cannibalism.

Honda has made very little, if any, profit off the Fit in all six years it's been available worldwide san North America, despite having sold over 2 million units. And they are willing to live with that reality so long as they can sell other value-added models. Honda will likely stick with the "market presence at no profit" model with the new Fit, even for USDM. And that's good for us.

I absolutely love it! I think I'm going to hold out for an 09 (with panoramic skyroof!) if my del sol will last. Luckily now I only drive it about 300 miles a month instead of 3000. I wonder if the 09 will have paddle shifters on the automatic though, I really like that.

do you think the skyroof will make it over to the states? i thought that would hinder some US safety standards.

that is the only feature of this new version that i do like.

this used to bother me, but it only increased 2 inches length 0.8 inches wide.

The fit deserves a high price. the longer you drive it, the more you realize it does offer more than other econoboxes, almost to the point it's luxury w/o luxury. I mean, the fit's only feature that makes it non-luxury is leather seats and maybe a navigation. The car is quiet when idling, smooth driving, smooth shifting, paddle shifters (fit is the only honda with paddles. Not even the new accord has them)

If the fit had leather seats, i'd consider the fit deservingly more expensive than the mini.

There are other cars over here that have roofs like that I think, so I don't see why not. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Per the Edmunds article, "It's surprising that the overall weight gain is a meager 22 pounds."

They don't say if they're comparing base to base or what, but 22 pounds is negligible. And if luxury options like the panoramic roof are indeed standalone options, you could just not get those to save weight.
