i thought the miata crushed the del sol just because the miata is so freaking tight. they're very different cars too no?

When I saw the fit for the first time, my ONLY beef was it was ugly. I considered the versa and yaris but as time went by the fit grew on me and I think it's the best looking. Same with the xB, i used to think it was a monstrosity.

This car will probably grow on you. Hopefully it does, cuz the fit is a great car

Calm down Chicken Littles, the sky is not falling.

2 inches additional length and 22 pounds are 1.3% and 0.92% increases respectively. While maybe not insignificant, minimal at worst. For some reference, the first generation Civic wagon was longer than the Fit redesing will be, which is still more than 3 FEET shorter than the original Isuzu-based Odyssey.

If you want to get an idea of the Fit's likely growth, the Civic has grown 35 inches in its 35 years in the US (28 if it weren't for the small bumpers on the first year model). So when the young on this board are approaching retirement in their late 50's and early 60's, the Fit should be about the current Civic's size.

The Fit RS is pretty badass, but I have serious doubts about them selling that in the US. I think I'll just buy a new '07/'08 at reduced cost and pass. There's already decent aftermarket backing for them.

what's with the freakin front end? they shoulda kept it like the one we now have and just square off the nose like all the new utes/vans (they did that in the 09, but the hood is WAY too rounded off now)... throw in a small, but more defined grill -- there you go!

i like the bigger, but softer handling? no thanks! that was the reason every auto magazine liked the fit better than the yaris and versa, the tight handling. (sure, it's a little bumpier, get some fatter tires if you don't like it)

i like the telescoping steering wheel, but i have to say i've always thought the civic's steering wheel was alot more cumbersome than the current fit... i wish they wouldn't have gone with it.

sunroof - cool, albeit unnecessary (WTF? i heard it won't even open??)

more horsepower is cool, but from what i've read the gears ratios are going to be wider; eliminating any more real get-up-n-go... sure cruising at 80 will be slightly quieter, but most of my driving is between 0 and 35mph.

any real fears i have had about my fit's obsolescence have been quenched by what i've seen so far... i'm pretty sure this gen will be well sought after once it's put out to pasture.

one more thing, anyone hear if this one will have a dead pedal?

The new generation needs a dead pedal AND some type of lever to adjust the height of the front seats, or at least SOMETHING more to adjust than just forward and backward like it is now..

Who said the 09 Fit had softer handling? This is what Edmunds said when they drove it:

Minicar, Not Minivan
It all works, as the new Fit now turns in superbly, gobbling up corners without rolling onto its door handles. More important, once you turn into a corner, you feel the rear end come around obediently, as if it actually wants to follow the line scribed by the front tires, so there's less understeer than before. The Fit now feels more like a small sedan than a small minivan.

The new suspension calibration also improves straight-line stability. On Honda's high-speed proving ground, the Fit felt as stable at 110 mph as it did at 50 mph. And the brakes also offer loads of stopping power, while the pedal feels firm and uncompromised by brake fade.

Sounds to me like an improvement...

It's called a glass roof. It's an option nowadays in luxury cars, and for some reason the scion tC as well. I dont think we will get that option stateside anyways.

Where have you read about revised gear ratios? Can you provide a link?

fit handling

to the user who posted the edmunds reivew; thanks. This review in itself got criticized because after the fit came out, a lot of car reviewers loved the handling, hence why this article was puzzling.

in other countries apparently, the fits suspension has come under scrutinization for the less than stellar roads. The new fit will maintain a great ride/handling balance, even more so than the current fit.

true, it did, and thats why there is a little car called an s2k! Del sol and miata are 2 different beasts imo.

and the s2k really does kill the miata.

Personally, i think some of the new features for the 09 fit are great, but for the most part, i feel like its a completely different car. aesthetically, its too sharp, especially coming from the GD3's original, "softer" lines. plus that sun roof??? what is that? it doesnt even look like it'll open. The only thing ill really envy about the new 09 fits are the back seats. it looks like you wont have to remove the headrests to put the back seats down!

I dont like the new design. I would only trade up if they put a turbo diesel in the new one here in the US. I dont like the high roof, and its even more pronounced on the new design. When these get older and I can get one real cheap a chop top will be in order

There is no way the US Fit will be offered with any of this stuff.

corey415,

I think Honda might offer the navigation system on the new Fit in the USA market as an extra-cost option like they do with the higher-end USDM Civic EX and Accord EX models. It won't be cheap, though--probably around US$900 to US$1,000.
