My 1st 400+ Mile Tank Of Gas

My 1st 400+ Mile Tank Of Gas
I finally reached 400+ miles for one tank of gas on this last tank.
I ended up with 404.2 miles for the tank and she needed 11.372 gallons to fill her completely up, which gave me a 35.54 MPG for the tank.
It was mostly interstate mileage so the speeds were ranging from 65-80 MPH and the are tons of hills on I-80 between Lincoln and Omaha, NE so i think that i could have gotten more miles on a more level interstate or highway but either way i finally broke the 400 mile mark.
Sorry for the fuzzy picture but the only camera i had with me at the gas station was my camera phone and it sucks.

man, i could never put even 10 gallons in her! how did you fit that much gas? you must have gone awhile with the light on, running on fumes!
the best i ever got was 360 on about 9.2 gallons for a nice total of 39. but props to you man!
its seems that 60-65 is the fits sweet spot. unfortunately i never leave to work with enough time to drive that slow, and other drivers wouldn't tolerate it.

The "low" gas light came on around the 385 mile mark and from past experience i knew i could get the final 15 miles out of her so that's what i did.
This was the most gas i have ever put into the Fit since I've owned it.

Be careful though... you can burn out your fuel pump if you run out of gas. Also, when you're filling up, don't top it off too much or you'll start getting gas going into whatever cannister is used for vapor recovery.

ah i see. according to our fits manual, once the light comes on, we have about 1.4(?) gallons left before we are totally empty. (if i'm not mistaken, i think it said we even have a seperate tank that holds even more!)
you could have probably squeezed even more out if you were doing around 60 on the highway!

if it takes a long time to do it, you might have to worry about condensation build-up (ie - water).
So don't worry about it unless you're taking several weeks, or there's HUGE changes in temperature.

My first tank on my Fit (used with ~3900 miles on it) got about 310 miles before the light came on. I put 8.7 gallons in it... figure that's about 36mpg.
195 miles of that was freeway driving at 75MPH almost all of the way. Started that leg at full, and the needle was in the middle when I finished. I estimate that leg of driving at 38mpg.
Now that I'm commuting, and doing some shorter trips, I'm thinking I'll come in around 33mpg average, which is quite respectable, IMHO.

I'm not sure what youre talking about. I always refill after the light comes up.

I believe we have a 10.8 gallon tank but the tank is under the driver's seat and that is quite aways from the gas cap, so the remaining gas sets in the tube until there is room in the tank.

Assume the fuel pickup is at the bottom of the tank. If so, then you'd ALWAYS suck up crap from the bottom of the tank.
Assume the fuel pickup is at the top of the tank. At some point, there's not enough fuel to make its way into the pickup. So you'd NEVER have any crap getting sucked in.
Finally, assume you have a fuel filter (which is the safest assumption of all). It should do its job.
