Re-fit or not?

My fit was declared a total loss by the insurance company. I need to get a new car. I want the 09, but it's not out yet. I'm hesitant about getting an 08 because it's probably going to loose value when the 09 comes out. So, basically, I'm in a confused state right now. I'm thinking about buying an old civic, but I still like the fit better. Looks like my options are:

1. Buy a used car and loose money.
2. Buy an 08 Fit and stick with it.
3. Ride the bus for 3-5 months until the 09 comes out.
4. Ditch the Fit (Sounds so sad) and buy another car.

Any ideas/suggestions/jokes/offers/donations will be appreciated.

Get a ek hatch. So much cheaper to mod. I owned a 00 hatch and I ended up buying a 99 2 months ago.

You have an interesting predicament.

I guess you have to ask yourself how much you like the '09 or the '08.
Also consider once the '09 comes, there could be waiting time or it could be quite expensive (markup) to get one.

I'm hesitant about getting an 08 because it's probably going to loose value when the 09 comes out.
If you buy a '09 it will depreciate a equivalent amount once it is off the lot.

If i were in your situation, I would get the '08. This is because I really dislike the '09. The '09 has a tough act to follow and I have a feeling that it won't live up to its older brother, the GD3.

GD3 - the last decent car that Honda made.

#2. You said it yourself -- you need a car. Unless you disliked liked the '08, why would you wait for a car that you have never driven, have never seen in person, and don't even know if you will like? You're not going to lose that much value, it's a Honda, not a Chevy, and unless you're planning on selling it soon after you get it, it's really a moot point anyway. Go for it!

If it was me, I'd buy a cheap beater car until the 09 comes out.

How about commuting via bicycle. More practical than buses especially in OC (depending on your comuute ). However definitely less practical than a car.

exactly

So will everything else, but we know Fits seem to hold value well...
So, basically, I'm in a confused state right now.
We got that
I'm thinking about buying an old civic,
where you would loose even more money, if you decided to move on later
but I still like the fit better.
that should not be ignored

1. Buy a used car and loose money.
yup unless you keep it....foe evva evva....
2. Buy an 08 Fit and stick with it.
sounds very reasonable
3. Ride the bus for 3-5 months until the 09 comes out.
you live in Cali (socal esp.) we are not known for our transit system, and you are waiting for a huge variable
4. Ditch the Fit (Sounds so sad) and buy another car.
do you want another car???...cuz it doesnt sound like it

Any ideas/suggestions/jokes/offers/donations will be appreciated.
peace,
and good luck

Ride the bus! You'll be helping the environment and it's probably the least expensive of your options in the long run.

Depends on how much you like the new design of the next gen Fit. If you really like that car and cant wait for it to come out, just wait it out till october.

I'd get an 08, as other have mentioned, there could be a wait for the 09, and you're waiting for an unknown. At a local dealership here, Honda is offering 1.9% financing on all 08 Hondas! Could save you a bunch of coin in the long run, you won't be out a vehicle, and you know what you're getting!

never buy the first year run on a new redesigned model! your best bet is the 08. if anything, wait until sept/oct when the 09 arrive and you will find the KILLER deals from dealers trying to dump old stock from the lot.

as far as your concern for the car loosing value, any car looses value once you drive it off the lot. i dont really like the looks of the 09 but its all up to you, if you need a car get one but if you can wait just wait.

I think just about all of us that have bought '08's - and read about Fit's before we bought them - went through the same thing: "should we wait to buy the '09"

Here's my advice. (For whatever it may be worth):

If you always are waiting for the next best thing - car, whatever - you just miss out on al ot.

Life can change on a dime, live in the present.

That all said -

The '09 will drive different, is bigger, and will probably sell hundreds of thousands more that the present model in the US (you'll see them everywhere I bet in a couple of years).

I say BUY the 08!!!

It's the last year of a longer-than-normal model year (I think 8 years all together?) We just got the last few years of the model here in the states.

The '09 will be a great car - but like others said - the first year of the new model will probably have a few bugs.

Thanks for the advice everyone. You've convinced me to get the 08. I just signed insurance papers today for the insurance to pay off my loan and pay me back the remaining amount. Also, I forgot to mention that my aftermarket rims survived along with my Ray's Lug Nuts and I have them in my garage. I might as well put them on the 08. Time for me to negotiate with the dealer once more. I'm just sad that I actually got that 07 for an MSRP of 16,000 flat, but now it's gone! Gap insurance went to waste and now I'm going to have to ask Honda to transfer the extended warranty from the totaled car to the new one. I loose 1,300 on sales tax though, sux. WISH ME LUCK ON MY NEXT FIT!
