Quality Engineer looks at Fit
the only thing i agree with is we need CVT transmissions in the US. unfortunately Honda has had them in their cars in the states for a long time now and they don't seem to be a feature americans even notice. maybe if we did, they'd tout them here. The CVT is the key to getting usability out of a really small engine.
I downshift my fit whenever I feel like it.........in full auto mode. I do it every time I come to a stoplight, to utilize engine braking, keep the motor in vacuum so the injectors aren't running, rather than just using the brakes. Helps my fuel economy.
6speed cvt? Oxymoron there? Maybe pseudo-6speed, based on programming, but nothing else.
Regardless, the U.S. consumers are what dictate the market. I'd kill for a diesel powered honda or bmw right now. But we don't get them because stuffy consumers think diesels are loud and dirty. Funny, but diesels are getting to be as clean or cleaner than the petrol counterparts, while being far more efficient and more powerful for the same displacement.
Can you blame Honda for making the business decisions that lead to better profits? They're in the business of making money, not making friends and pleasing everyone. If you dislike the fit so much, buy something else. Seriously. It's obvious Honda isn't going to listen and make those changes for you.
Besides. The Fit cost me less than any versa would, looks better too. I'll take that few thousand dollars I saved and buy a far better stereo setup than comes in any factory car in our segment, for much, much less than the options. Who uses multi-disc cd changers anymore anyways? Mp3 cds and Ipods are taking over. This much is clear.
Oh, and the Yaris....well, is overpriced IMO. Scions are worse. Way too much money for what you get.
